His real name was Alvin. “Buck” was the name of a donkey his family had on the family farm. According to Wikipedia, when Alvin was 34 years old, he walked into the house and announced that his name was Buck The fam was good with it, and the rest is history!

Surprisingly it is a bit like the Korg Sigma! Which i used live as well as in some recordings. Not what you'd call a synthesizer today, but surprisingly versatile. The Pro-Soloist has by its' 70s use every right to be in the ARP collection. Thank you Mr. Slepian for an interesting show-down of this legendary instrument.

I absolutely love the demonstration of how these instruments and sounds have been layered into the music. The end product that the public hears goes through so many layers from composition, musicianship, engineering, producing, mastering, and production/reproduction that the core brilliance can be obscured - like looking at art through smoked glass. This was a fantastic glimpse and the direct art.

Wow incredible intro Shine On noises with the Yamaha YC45D. I never would have known how those sounds were made. WYWH is very synth and keyboard heavy, surprising to think Rick really fell off in contributions afterwards. Roger must have been quite a force. Did you notice in the new Animals remix David is credited with keyboards now? I wonder what he played. Mike you really are a legend. Guitar playing was top notch too. We need a Pink Floyd score book equivalent to the Beatles Score book. Loved the bass playing in second half of Shine On, I had to put my headphones on to hear all the passing notes

A few months ago I also analysed and recreated the intro of SOYCD - to my surprise Musical Director @Joncarin reacted - he told me I was wrong on quite a few facts… this is what I learned: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX-tpWxjnrZ6idksi=TGat3dWwU614iONK

I saw your video as we were in the process of making this. Definitely illuminating and informed my descriptions at the end, especially with the Taurus. Of course I want to it be known that I took a few liberties with the arrangement and Instrumentation, but in the spirit of creativity that hopefully Rick would've enjoyed.

bizarre.. using a quadra arp on a 75 record... and also the farfisa which notoriously the last time it was used in the studio was on The Dark...

Not bizarre if you watched the segment where he discusses Rick's instruments and explains the RW timeline. Same goes with the Solina String Synthesizer and Taurus pedals.

@@emeapp sorry if I'm picky BUT... if you make a video where you play SOYCD and you show me playing an Arp Quadra made in '78 well there's something wrong... don't you think?

No. The episode is about Rick and the era that includes Wish You Were Here, Animals and Dark Side of the Moon, roughly 1972-78. The song is a vehicle to show the listener how the instruments sound, it was never intended to be an accurate remake. I appreciate that you watched it and care enough to comment!

@@Marwattexactly what the other guy said. It's a rearrangement. And I will freely admit that I took liberties with the arrangement and the choice of instruments for various reasons. It's not an exact replica of the original studio recording. It was never intended to be. Neither was my version of Echoes.

I had the extremely good fortune while Visiting Erv Wilson in the late 1970s, to sit at the side of George's custom Scalatron, while he played it for me. He started with a demo of his then-new 17+2 unequal temperament. The music was fascinating and as I followed his various ingenious modulations, my head moved around in space to follow them. Then suddenly, he pressed one of the tuning buttons and began playing a different kind of music in a different tuning. Immediately, without intending to do so, I sat up straight with perfect posture. My breathing became deep and effortless. My vision and mind became crystal clear. I felt fantastic! I said "George, what did you do?" He smiled and said "Oh, that's Helmholtzian Just" and then he switched to yet another tuning and musical idiom. I involuntarily slumped in the chair, My breathing became constricted, my eyes crossed and I had trouble thinking clearly. With effort, I said "George, push the other button!" He went back to Helmholtz and I got instant relief. This was my initiation into what Ivor Darreg called the "moods" of different tunings.
