28:40 is such a dreary tune. A bygone sound of dying times. It feels sad, disheartening and broken. It captures the true sound of humanity: the sound of bane, the sound of despair, the sound of bittersweet happiness, the sound of love, the sound of nostalgia, the sound of longing. All in just a wordless, indescribable composition. What joy it brings, and what despair it inflicts. It's truly the sound of sounds. The tune, sound, and touch of all sentiments.

I spent six years playing these tapes at WHSH, Albany NY. There's something different about SRP music, besides the sonic purity. I didn't like the music then because I was a 20-something pup, but I always appreciated the quality of the recordings. After our contract lapsed we switched to Kala Music and it hurt my ears.

Ken Lamb had an incredible voice and was my inspiration. In 1988 I got my first job in radio at age 16. I was part time DJ on Easy Listening 106.9, WMRI in Marion, Indiana. We played Ken’s Special of the Week every Sunday. Our listeners loved it - and so did I. I loved listening to Ken, and I modeled my delivery after his. So sorry to hear he passed. He was an inspiration to me, and I am really loving hearing his golden voice again after all these years. Rest in Peace Ken.

Didn't she write the hit song "Oh Happy Day"
@CV2200AАй бұрын
"Oh Happy Day" is a 1967 gospel music arrangement of the 1755 hymn by clergyman Philip Doddridge. Recorded by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, it became an international hit in 1969, reaching No. 4 on the US Singles Chart. So, NO, Nancy Reed did not write "Oh Happy Day".

I think the Miller group sounds a lot like the men from the Ray Conniff group. If I'm not mistaken, Ray got his start with the blessing of Mitch when Mitch was in charge of the Columbia label, so Ray may have had a hand in producing this sound. I liked a lot of what Conniff did.

Definitely different markets. As of 1968, Group W's New York all-news outlet, 1010 WINS, had their ID as such: "This is WINS, New York, Group W, Westinghouse Broadcasting, for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut." Their weather forecasts were "for New York and vicinity" (or, alternately, "the city and vicinity," maybe sometimes even "New York City and vicinity"), and on time checks they would say, "The New York temperature is ___ degrees." On their forecasts, they would start with "In Manhattan right now . . . " They also at the time had only one time tone per hour - on the hour, as opposed to both the top and bottom of the hour (:00:00 and :30:00). As of Oct. 23, 1969 (the night of a heated debate amongst Mayoral candidates John V. Lindsay, John Marchi and Mario Procaccino, moderated by longtime City Hall reporter Doug Edelson), WINS' hourly time tone appeared to be ~785 Hz sine, duration of 500 ms (:00.5). At KYW in Philadelphia, their forecasts were for "the Tri-State area," mentioning Center City for temperatures, and also those "at the airport." In 1969 their ID was "This is KYW, Group W, Westinghouse Broadcasting, serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, from Philadelphia." They did not have a time tone at any part of their broadcast day until after they moved to Independence Mall in 1972. Also, is it my imagination, or does KFWB's teletype sound appear to have come off a Standard Transcriptions sound effects disc (the same company whose car crash sounds were famously, or infamously, used on Nervous Norvus' "Transfusion" and The Shangri-Las' "Leader Of The Pack")?

This is the best Muzak tape I have heard so far for music selection
@CV2200A2 ай бұрын
This is NOT a Muzak tape. SRP charged radio stations to get these tapes distributed in rotation for broadcast. New York's WPAT was on SRP distribution for a few years, then went back to making their own tapes. My one visit to WPAT in 1980 they were broadcasting SRP tapes.

The Puffin Browser still works on my old iPhone 4S but the livenow.news stream does not work with Puffin nor Safari. Livenow.news changed something that it no longer works on certain platforms including the browser that is in my Sony Blu-Ray player. It just comes up with the choice of Quad screen 1, 2, 3 or 4 but it no longer gives the top bar with the streaming news channels. Livenow.news still works great on Windows PC or my new iPad. The Puffin browser allows you to get to more modern websites but not livenow.news.
