Any chance you’d share those plans ($?) I would legitimately buy them from them if they were selling them, but they are still on a break or whatever. I have been working on my own plans for a similar designed cabin (mono pitch roof with a large front wall) for my property in northern Minnesota and would love to reference the plans. Mine will be a smaller footprint. Totally understand if you don’t want to, but I thought I would at least ask. Love your build, it’s been super inspiring.

Glad you are enjoying the build. I wouldn't feel right redistributing the plans, but maybe you could try messaging the seller on Etsy? If I come across some similar/alternative plans, I will add them in the comments for you. When you start building, you'll have to share it with us on KZbin. It is hard work, but very rewarding.

What’s your plan for water and waste water? I’m assuming you’re drilling a well and getting a septic tank. Your build is exactly what I’ve been drawing up for myself. Would be curious to know the prices your at so far.
@TheGolfCoast2 күн бұрын
Well and Septic. I'll tackle all of the plumbing and septic system myself. I'll have to pay someone to drill the well. Not including the lot, you're looking at about 20-25k in materials to get where I'm at.

How did you splice together the roof rafters? Also, where they meet the middle wall, did you cut the birdsmouth where the rafters intersect that wall? Or did you only do that at the front and rear?
@TheGolfCoast6 күн бұрын
@@seanphelan6975 The roof rafters overlap at the middle wall and were nailed together face to face with framing nails (some structural screws on the wonky ones.) There is a birds mouth at each wall intersection, including the middle wall. We made a template and used that to cut everything consistent, including the angle at each end for the facia boards. The birds mouth cuts were cake. Getting the 2x10s in place, soffit in place, and facia boards up was probably the second most challenging part of the project, with the first being the block foundation.

Nice work, I am enjoying the series. Might have missed it but did you end up coring through the block for your plumbing and septic?
@TheGolfCoastАй бұрын
@@kyleevans2 not yet. I plan to run plumbing and electrical this winter, which would allow me to get the rough inspection checked off. I plan to core thru the block once I start the septic system.

any reason you went with a crawl space vs slab on grade for northern michigan?
@TheGolfCoast2 ай бұрын
I wanted to be able to access the plumbing, run electrical, have a place for some of the mechanicals, etc. I plan to insulate and condition the crawlspace, which should keep the floors comfortable in the winter time vs. a cold slab. Even though the sandy soils drain well, I like the idea of the home sitting a couple blocks higher than grade level. Lastly, the resale value of a home is generally higher for a crawlspace vs. a slab foundation.

Sick project. My dream. Love the climbing jacks, whats the proper name for them? always wondered how to lift a whole wall frame with limited people

Portable Wall Jacks. This was my first time using them. I wouldn't have been able to stand the walls without them. There's a few videos out there regarding proper usage. If you want to see something really cool, check out electric wall jacks.
