IBEW Union is a freaking joke! We have certain people that look out for certain people! I worked at places without a union and had better treatment! Screw unions! I have never had to beg or ask for a raise! Most places have a yearly raise based on your work performance a union does not base it on a workers performance they just give everyone a raise regardless if you work hard or just sorry! I've got my orientation for the apprenticeship in about two weeks for Local 26. I'm super excited to start a new career, but also nervous about possibly having to do a lot of driving to get to work and whatnot. I want to be as good of an apprentice as possible and I appreciate your videos on this stuff!

As they said in the Godfather series, "We need a wartime Consigliatori" They see our efforts in the field as "Adversarial" instead of their attempts to maintain the status quo. I finished the IBEW apprenticeship a few years ago and unfortunately you will get a mix of of journeyman some journeyman will be very good but at some point you will also have to deal with a incompetent or bullying journeyman. I learned a lot from both types of journeyman the good journeyman taught me what to do the bad journeyman taught me what not to do. Its not the end of the world if a bad journeyman gives you a terrible review or fires you. So long as as you are learning what to do/what not to do and more journeyman like you than dislike you there will be more jobs. The JATC (union electrician school) was a much bigger problem than any journeyman for me. The JATC had some ridiculous rules like if traffic makes you 5 minutes late to class you have to miss hours of work, you can't miss more than 1 to 2 days of class or you have to repeat the semester so if you have COVID I hope you can hide you're symptoms, if you have to be out of town for a week for a funeral I hope its not a class week, if you fail 2 tests in a year you are kicked out even if you aced everything else and have a 83% average and the JATC won't let you leave a minute early even if you finish all you're work. Class days were rough I couldn't get to bed until 10 or 11pm but I had to wake up at 4am. I was so tired on class days that I had trouble staying focused at work and I almost crashed the car on the drive home from class a few times. In my opinion the JATC is the real bully and I advise people getting into the program to not go through the apprenticeship to get their hours and then take the state test. You get lower pay for a few years if you don't go through the apprenticeship but you are less tired, you learn on the job better and there is so much JATC bullshit you don't have to deal with. I don't normally talk badly about programs but me and a few other apprentices I know felt that the JATC didn't help us very much we learned almost everything on the job and the JATC actually made it harder for us because couldn't learn as well when we were tired and overwhelmed.

Overtime is a favor you do for your employer. I'm working 5-12s right now. I work at the exact pace I do normally till 10 hours. After 10 hours I slow down. Especially Fridays. I can't make mistakes and after 10 that's when they happen. Friday from 5-6 is planning, cleaning, and on occasion saying hi to the guys you don't normally work with.
