Hi Lee, When you plan to cut out that much of the sill its a good idea to weld a strong angle iron piece temporary brace between the "A" and"B" post to stop that side of the vehicle from distorting, otherwise if the body moves you may find the door wont fit again.
@PastimeClassicCarRestorer2 ай бұрын
Hi, I have welded a bar across the a b and c posts. Fingers crossed all will be ok. Have just taken off the front wing,the inner sill needs a bit of repair but the good news is the inner wing is in very good condition,can see some of the original paint. Forgot the Austin had been exported, the mounting for the handbrake either side. Have you restored your Austin? Thanks again for you support..............Lee

@@PastimeClassicCarRestorer Sorry saying about the bar, I wasn't trying to tell you how to suck eggs. I'm still working on my 1956 A30 ( which I've owned and used for just on 60 yrs). Still to do the paint work, head lining, rear brakes and overhaul front suspension .Engine and transmission are good. Like you it's a retirement project. Keep up your good work.

@DelTry-tq3fh2 ай бұрын
@@PastimeClassicCarRestorer Lee watch out when you take the wings off check the ends of the sill where they join with the bottom of the "A" posts. They normally rust out there. That's a serious structural point also. With my one I had to make new foot well floors and a new rear parcel shelf. I hope you won't have that problem. Best regards. Looking good Lee!! Let local garage loose on my van and now a shame to drive around in it in case somebody thinks it's my welding.... :( Sadly instead of making panels that fit or even buying the panels which would have been cheaper they just welded flat strips of metal on top when I say welded I mean some pigeons were cooing nearby.... Right next to the patches are two big holes as well... But apparently that passes the MoT... I realised I should have done it myself now. But I just thought it would be quicker if they did it... It took them 10 minutes apparently... But it took 6 hours to polish the headlights....

Yorkshire car restores and Fitzees fabricator they are both fantastic to watch but have different ways to repair, however they both gave me confidence to have a go myself.
