I believe the southbound coast starlight usually departs Portland around like 2:30ish pm.

That's correct. Alot of newer crossing grades were equipped with them and some were replacing the old mechanical bell on older grade crossings.

I'm sure you would. I hate that some people think train horns are a nuisance but they're not when train horns are used to warn cars and pedestrian that a train is coming.

Funny. The Canpotex trains in Canada are now a standard 200 to 205 car sets on CN and CP. I assume in they shorten the ones destined for Portland because of the terminal not being able to accommodate longer trains.
