I would also like to add a link to the studio recording of the piece from 'Dad-o-Bidad' by Hossein Alizadeh (and Hamavayan ensemble), as the only available video was not of that high a quality and might not do the music justice. Here is the very part, titled 'Falak': kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKu9epdujd6rotU

Very nice interview! How would one go about to learn more about Evgenios modality/theoretic model? Very interesting, seems to be a very natural approach. Definitely left me wanting to learn more!

Thank you to both Fadil and Ross for sharing these valuable and interesting conversations. The guided tour of the Ross Daly´s instruments was a bit short, it would be interesting to dedicate an episode just going through his whole collection. 🌷

Mr. Erguner, today we can easily distinguish segah and hüzzam! We can not only appreciate a suznak şarkı fasıls, but also appreciate Dellazade's "Sinede bir lâhza ârâm eyle gel canım gibi" and other suznaks of İsmail Dede, Küçük Mehmet Ağa, Zekai Dede. Musician should not underestimate culture of musical public and take an easy way out by saying "nobody understands this any more."

This is a valuable, interesting interview showing in modern Turkey how you can become a good musician. Thank you for this long intervew. Ahmet said his parents were not musicians but they actually gave him a very valuable background. His mother played kanun and his father was an incredibly good listener of classical music. He listened classical pieces from Münir Nurettin Selçuk, Bekir Sıtkı Sezgin, Alaeddin Yavaşça, Kani Karaca, Safiye Ayla and Meral Uğurlu. At a young age he listened Tanburi Cemil Bey, Mesut Cemil Bey, İzzettin Ökte, Ercüment Batanay and also Necdet Yaşar. These musicians gave him the “cocoon” as you wrote above. In modern Turkey it is not easy to insulate yourself from bad music. In taxies, “dolmuş”, on the streets, cafes, everywhere there is really bad music screaming. Some ezans are resided very badly, difficult to listen to some of them 5 times a day once you listened to Kani Karaca’s, Bekir Sıtkı Sezgin’s. His parents gave him the SENSE OF WHAT IS GOOD. He then listened to good music without being prejudiced. Ahmet has patience and talent for listening. He enjoys listening good music, he enjoys listening his own recordings. Some technically talented players stop doing that. Ahmet spends much more time to listen then to play. He had one of the best tanbur players of modern Turkey, Murat Aydemir, as a teacher for 10 years. Ahmet memorized pieces the old-fashioned way, listening masters, through meşk. He then learned notes. He also listens classical western music, which is wonderful. He does not fall into "alaturka/alafranga" sterile, useless even harmful debates. Even though this was Ahmet’s first interview in English, his English is good. He expresses himself well at a basic fundamental level. When he needs to discuss complicated musicological issues, issues related to his tanbur technique, etc., he needs more sophistication. He should learn English of all music terms. We have a vey talented tanbur player/singer (though we didn’t listen much of his singing), Collector of GOOD music, collector of 78 RPM records, photographs, paintings... Apparently he has a very good digital archive. He has access to huge material, which are now available to anyone willing to search and study thanks to Internet. Most importantly, Ahmet has an open mind, energy, generosity to share material, willingness to move forward. We will see much more of him…

Dear Ercüment Aksoy, you have summarized everything very nicely. Thank you very much for your comment which is full of your kindness and compliments, and of course thanks again for your time. I’ll try to do my best for the rest of my career. And my English also will be better, I will improve myself. All the best…

Dear Mr. Alturki, i really apreciate your english interviews with all this great musicians. It is a rare opportunity for me to hear and understand musicians, i would not understand, if they would speak in their native language. Therefor thanks a lot. Excuse me, but i am in this interview a little bit disturbed, by the fast switches between Evgenios and your screens. I would be very happy to see longer views without switching when Evgenios or you are speaking . And again thanks to you and Evgeninos and all the other musicans to take time and effort to spek about what we all love.

I really appreciated the interview. I just bought a used 1997 Stenzel guitar (practically new) and I'm really enjoying it. It was great to see his ideology and the way he think and build the instruments. My guitar has a lot of his ideals and is a masterpiece! Best regards from Brazil.
