Everything shown here was pretty standard and basic now. Drones with lidar are nothing new, mecanum wheels aren't new., running an object detection model on a camera mounted on a car isn't new. Nothing shown here that hasn't been seen many times before and can't be done with relatively cheap components and readily available code. So what makes this company and it's products different? Nothing to indicate that those ground robots were actually driving autonomously either.
@avularrobotics2 ай бұрын
"Standard and basic" feels like a stretch, but the solutions shown here are indeed not pioneered by us alone. What does set us apart is having built our robots completely from the ground up, creating a robut base to develop new use-cases from. For the Vertex (drone) we opted to create our own flight controller rather than relying on 3rd party code. This allows for rapid development of further aerial applications varying greatly in size and function (sneak peek of a MUCH bigger drone coming soon). For a more in-depth look at the Origin's (ground robot's) autonomy we recommend checking out our video on Dynamic Obstacle Avoidance, and if your skepticism prevails you're always welcome to join us for a demo! 😉 TL;DR: reliability, flexibility, ease of use, and customizability

i wish more robotics research went into these kind of robots/AI meant to help with tedious, dangerous and boring jobs instead of trying to replace the more fun things

We completely agree, let humans create while robots take care of boring routine tasks / maintenance 🦾

Robots and AI will help us to live a better life in the future. They can do the boring and monotonous jobs and humans can do more creative and exciting jobs in order to more value, more innovation and better productivity. Industry 4.0 is based upon machines and systems. But the next wave, Industry 5.0 will be concentrating on people-centricity, sustainability and resilience. Humans and collaborative robots will help each other and work together for the same goals and they will create better efficiency, better opportunities and a better standard of living.
