@@sorenfleron checking the aftercooler we pulled it out and found that it had deteriorated. Also salt crystals in the bottom of the casing.

@@robertsandall9493 not great - I hope you did not get too much salt water in the engine. Crossing fingers for you. But keep us updated.

I recently had a leak with the aftercooler which resulted in water getting into the engine

OH NO 😞 so sad to hear. so the aftercooler leaked - do you know why? it does not rust, so strange. Did it damage the engine? BR Soren

Except the shop manual on my -42 specifically points out the drain plug on the intercooler as one point of drainage for winterization.

Hi David You are absolutely right. The point of this video is that it is not needed to drain there... much easier using a water vacuum cleaner and empty through the hoses :-) Wish you a great day. BR Soren

@@sorenfleron Are you sure you're getting all the water out by vacuuming from the top?
@sorenfleron9 ай бұрын
@@davidshepherd7750 Hi David. Yes that is also what the video is showing. when dismounting the tube from waterpump and sucking on the out of the intercooler the intercooler is emptied out. I was able to suck it, and then remove it from it's cage and it was all emptied out. Really good thing by removing it completely is to clean out all the stuff that is sucked in from raw water. But yes - it was dry. BR Soren

What if you live in a very cold weather climate?
@sorenfleron Жыл бұрын
Hi @user... I would still clean the intercooler, if it is clogged your engine will have a hard time getting enough air. You also have the compressor to help the engine get more air when running cold. Not sure if that answers your question? BR Soren

hello greetings I would like to get the workshop manual for volvo Penta KAD 42 KOMPRESSOR
@sorenfleron Жыл бұрын
Hey - thanks for writing - yes would in deed be good, however there is really not much about the supercharger / kompressor, seems to be ONE part, only info is on changing oil in the kompressor which is a VERY good idea to do yearly, and also fairly simple and not expensive...
@sorenfleron Жыл бұрын
Please also see here, there are not many parts around the kompressor: marinepartseurope.com/en/dealer/jlmarine/category/marine%20diesel%20engines/product/kad44p/explodedview/54168140?catalog=7738870_MD4B&functiongroup=Inlet%20and%20Exhaust%20System&img=45444.png&header=Compressor%20and%20Belt%20Protection

If you cant get the intercooler itself out without unbolting the whole casing, then the workshop vacuum is a quick way to enable a descale. Neat idea ! Ok, you cant get to the cooling fins., but...
@sorenfleron Жыл бұрын
Hi - is that because there is not enough space? the insert itself should be fairly easy to pull out using a set of pliers.

@@sorenfleron Yes, starboard is ok, but there isn't enough height on the port side
@sorenfleron Жыл бұрын
@@gavinmay4047 Bummer 😞 that is really sad, so empty usinca vacuum and then I guess the only way is to unbolt the whole case. when the case is empty from water you can remove it nicely - there is a good video on this (except for draining 🙂): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHLChmNme9iar5Y
