Congratulations...really nice butterfly with consistent stroke count (12-13-13-13) and same rhythm and technique maintained during the 4 lengths.

It's obvious. My typically bad start, a terrible second turn, swimming all over the lane, and a really slow stroke rate. Simple! 🙂

You have a lot of years to get faster. Me, not so much! In masters swimming, there's a saying: You don't have to get faster, just older.

Nice technique, I would focus on not grabbing the wall each turn and staying low each turn, breathing every stroke is a personal thing but nice swim!

Faster is lower arms. Stronger fly kick going into water and one to rise out of water, and lungs of iron required 🙂

Marchand, who won the individual 400 medley at NCAA's this year would have been ahead by 5 seconds before the freestyle, and finished 0.2 seconds behind this time. Relay starts are worth about 3 seconds vs pushoffs, so he would have beaten them handily.

I have the full audio from the live broadcast in 1969, but the only video is from a parent's home movies. For better video, check out the 200 fly.

Paulo, I'm 61, living in Northern California. Last year was my first year competing since college. Gottenburg was a great event. The US short course yards nationals are in Mesa Arizona at the end of April. Maybe I'll see you there. Alan
