It took me a while to figure it out. Vivienne is Gaston's lover. So while her official title of Court Mage implies a loyalty to Celene, it's possible The Empress saw Viv as loyal to The Council of Heralds as opposed to her personally. One day I have to see how Vivienne as Divine deals with Celene.

Wasn't Council of Heralds also overwhelmingly in favour of Celene? If I remember correctly Gaspard threatened the Council during Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts quest because they are covering for her.

Morrigan gets the win every time she doesn’t bow to celene but vivienne has to and morrigan gets to watch. It curb stomps her whole reality of “look at me a mage amongst high nobility, imagine how hard I had to work to get here I am living proof that mages can be better” while morrigan just popped up and said I’m crashing here with my kid in exchange I’ll do something for you here and there.

Naw, Morrigan burned Viv so, so much harder by just dismissing her little "cockroach" commentary, even giving a little "there yah' go" faux-compliment like one gives to a child flailing about trying and failing to be your equal. It was pathetic, hence Morrigan condescending laugh. Morrigan knows she's Viv's superior in everyway, she straight up treated Viv like the petulant, entitled little child Viv is with what basically amounted to, "Ok, sweetie, try harder. [...] Good girl, that's better, now those of us who actually matter to the plot can continue speaking."

That's the party I had (including romancing Cassandra) except I had Varric instead of Vivienne. Still, a most heartwarming and gut-wrenching moment at the same time. Makes me think of the "I know" scene from The Empire Strikes Back. :*)

Same. I think Viv gets a bad rap because people disagree with her politics, but I've always thought her heart was in the right place. And she's an absolute badass, which helps...

@@EmphaticNod I think the bad rap she gets is because she wants to retain the status quo for the circle of magi while not really understanding that her life is an extreme outlier compared to everyone elses.

@@vinemon Hm, see, I never got the sense that she was satisfied with the status quo... I always got the impression that she agreed change was necessary and that she was for it, so long as it was brought about without resorting to actual bloodshed. We don't hear much about the things she accomplished for the Circle, so its hard to say if she's all talk regarding that, or not, but she definitely has mages *inside* the system that weren't as privileged as her, but who still support her. That said, lack of empathy for those less fortunate mages is definitely a huge character flaw of hers...

I love that before they go all power rangers mode, Rhys says "I expected your fists to shoot out like rockets or something" then when August goes up his last move is his fists shooting out like rockets
