Hello to Mike Lyon. Would appreciate an update on Jon B. Trained with him for a few years back in the early 70's. He was superman! How is he doing? He would be mid 80's by now and likely moving a little slower than before. Thanks for an update.

You would never survive using this in a street fight, Krav Maga a n Israeli fighting method is the only way to go, this is to machanial or robotic and stiff

I’m absolutely in love with this bed. For years now I’ve wanted to attempt to make this. This bed should be in furniture shows. It’s stunning. If i may ask what size is the largest ball on the bed? Any tips on the start of making it?

Ohshima Shotokan is so primitive and lame

I seems as if they don't pay much attention to alignment or form. Their timing is not there either. I need to ask someone in their version of shotokan, why they pay no attention for form at all. I guess if they are happy, that is the important thing

Years ago I trained in SKA for three years to start and then off and on over the years. Yes, I never got past brown belt level so to SKA people they probably would say I don't understand enough but I will say that I did some cross training, full contact sparring with boxers, and I learned very quickly to keep my hands up and my chin tucked in otherwise I got hit too much. SKA training is valuable but it isn't the whole world and I learned other things elsewhere, such as from other styles, that were a big help. SKA makes a big deal, that it is supposed to be the closet thing to Master Funakoshi's karate. But if that is the case, then why does a video of Funakoshi doing a Tekki kata look different than how SKA does it?

If they need to be told to use their hips and turn properly after so many years, then their instructors are not doing a good job in teaching them how to punch. This is something you learn in boxing/ Muay Thai in the first couple lessons.

I attended the special training headed up by Mr Altman at the Channel Islands facility, he ran this type of warm up daily and it was something very special! unfortunately this style of warm up was never adopted by the parent organization so this was my last experience of it. Years later I was able to greet and thank Mr Altman for having the wisdom to try it at the special training telling him many of us there all loved it after a few tries.

I was a young white belt here at this event. Little did I know at the time of this production that my future father-in-law was one of the videographers. This was 3 years prior to meeting my future bride. This was my home dojo. So many wonderful memories of so many of my friends in this video. Thank you to my seniors. Thanks Eric & Mike.

Jon Beltran was my science teacher when I was in 7th grade. While he probably doesn’t remember me (if he’s alive today, which I sincerely hope he is), I love and respect him to this day. Thank you, sensei. You are the best.

Jon Beltran was my science teacher in 7th grade. He was my favorite teacher. While he probably doesn’t know me today (if he’s even still alive, which I sincerely hope he is) I love and admire this man forever. You were the greatest, sensei.

What I love is that you prove that a mahogany top on a classical works! Seem it have plenty of volume and it's really punchier. What bracing did you use? Can you share the thickness and the dimensions of everything ?Thank you
@mikelyon Жыл бұрын
Oh, thanks! The top is about 2mm at a guess, fan braced, owned by a nephew in Washington state. A similar but slightly larger version is owned by the amazing Beau Bledsoe you can see it at kzbin.info/www/bejne/inzGhXZubb1nhK8 - Beau does travel and performs with it. I have another for sale at lyon.gallery/product/cg-16/

Without good warm up, such as shown her, we are restricted in training properly especially if the hip joints are not flexible. We run the risk of using the wrong muscle and injury in trying to compensate!!

I want to thank you for producing this warmup video.I was away from Karate or a number of years (various reasons) and at 67 I decided to make my come back. Your warmups have really allowed me to go back to classes 3 to 4 times a week privately without injury. Thank you so much.

Which controls have you controlled to generate the drawing? Air pressure and paint amount? What cnc software are you using? Thanks
@mikelyon3 жыл бұрын
Air pressure and needle valve (paint volume) are constant. I'm using code I wrote in MS Visual Studio. The only 'controls' are the X,Y movements of the CNC machine and the energizing / de-energizing of a solenoid to actuate the airbrush button to turn the paint-flow on and off. But this video was made fourteen years ago. I keep experimenting with mark-making methods to communicate image.
