The title is specious. He did it by getting out of the NL, where most of the best juicers were. But really, though, he dominated in 1999-2000 with great command of his change-up and fastball. To make a long story short. You're welcome.

Awesome vid. Though I am was an Indians fan during Pedro's Reign of Terror, it was hard not to admire him. He was so very entertaining, even in beating one's own team. And he was so small of stature! I worked with the Cleveland Indians media at that time and so once had a chance to be next to Pedro-- tiny fella! Yet, man, somehow he could bring that fastball of NITRATE! Amazing, incredible, impressive. Thanks for the vid.

Pedro Martinez, especially in 1999 and 2000, was the most dominant pitcher in the game. His fastball looked like a tiny aspirin at opposing hitters. And Pedro's curveball was devasting.

Hypothetical statistics can't replace talent. Good players are always better than hypothetical analytics. When the As have been good over the last 20 years, it was with a core of good players they developed and were controllable. Yes moneyball can help support a core, but you cant build a team with it.

I have to point out- Billy Beane didn’t invent the Moneyball concept per se. Sandy Alderson and Walt Jocketty established its beginnings when they were GM and assistant GM in Oakland prior to Beane’s promotion EDIT: And if you really wanna go back, Branch Rickey ran a proto-Moneyball back when he was running the Brooklyn Dodgers and hired Allan Roth as a statistician

I would never give an MVP to a pitcher, esp over a catcher who has prob the toughest job on the field physically and mentally if he is calling pitches, watching hitters, and keeping an eye on baserunners all while trying not to let a ball get by him. You should do a vid on making a case for Pudge Rodriguez being the best catcher of all time...14 times all star 13-time gold glove (1st all-time for C) 7 time Silver Slugger winner 1 MVP and 1 ring. In a ten year span in his career, he carried a .315 BA while hitting a career 296 over 21 seasons 2,844 hits (1st all-time for C) 311 HR 2,427 games caught (1st all-time for C) 14,864 putouts (2nd all-time for C) The most impressive thing about Pudge is he is 8th ALL TIME for DWAR among position players like Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken Jr , Brooks Robinson etc and is the only catcher in the top 10...There may have been catchers with more HR power but in my opinion for average and power, defense, and longevity behind the plate there is no better all-around catcher

@@tokeypokey Well a catcher did win the MVP that year so i am not wrong....I have been a Sox homer since i was a kid in the 80s and was in college during Pedros run. It would have been different if Pedro could have influenced the outcome of more games but he cant....hence the reason the Sox were mediocre during those 2 years...If the sox had made the WS or even a deep playoff run it may have been different...What real VALUE did Pedro bring to the team success? Its too bad he wasn't putting up those numbers in 03 or 04 then you have a case
