I'm looking at doing this on my boat, problem is I have zero access to the underside of the fridge. I'm thinking drilling through it is the only option. Any recommendations? Top first, bottom first?
@TRCAdventures2 күн бұрын
what boat are you working on, access for me was difficult but possible. I did drill the fridge in two spots just to make sure I got all around it, and it tunned out that I had reached all the areas without that. if you do drill the bottom of the fridge you will also need to seal the hole with (if its plastic, a two part epoxy) (if its fiberglass, a two part resin) so that moisture does not leak in to the spry foam. another option is to pull the fridge out, I looked at doing this but it was going to be extremely difficult. you will want to keep an eye on where the foam goes or expands to. (do a few test prays out side the boat to see how far it expands) start with the bottom and have a few holes so you know when the foam is filling the void (it will start to come though the holes as it dries} you can always spray more if needed, it can take a few days to fully finish drying and expanding. last note don't over do it, the spray foam can be a powerful force if trapped with no where to go. this made such an amazing difference to my refrigeration system, power usage, better regulated temperature, it was a great change.
@theodorekr97012 күн бұрын
@TRCAdventures thanks! It's a 1987 Bristol 40, I'm doing this in preparation for an icebox conversion. I actually have that same foam you used, I bought it to insulate other parts of the boat but ended up not using it because it was too messy for the areas I wanted to insulate, but seems it will get used after all.

I was looking at the new 1250s but they just had so many damn electronics and many owners complained about them not working as they should. But i started looking at the 08 and 09 and the camhead models and they seem like much more analog bikes similar to that of my fjr1300. Heated grips, cruise, abs, and TC. Nothing more just as i like it. Any issues, and any preference between this year hexhead and the later camhead? I understand they do have more valve clearance checks than many bikes but the task seems easy thanks to the boxer 2. Thanks.
@TRCAdventures12 күн бұрын
@county_bear9509 Great points on the latest iteration of the RT, each year, they become more like the K1600 and less like, what I feel the RT had become. There is something about the way the RT makes a connection with the rider that makes you love it more each ride, that's why, I think, you see so many miles on RTs and much less on the k1600s. To answer your questions, there are issues with the pre 09 bikes breaks, they use a electric pump to assist breaks, if the motor is off they don't work, problematic if you stall the bike or move it around when it's not started, also they fail and cost more than the value of the bike to fix. 09 this is fixed 09-2013 are the best bike at the best price, value for the money just can't be beat. Suspension was improved over the years, making the 2013 the best bike for the money. 2014 and the water boxer, you get more power you will only notice at full throttle. There are more reported problems with the newer bikes, but i have never run into any issues. The sift cam bikes even more power, but honestly that's not why we buy these bikes and the cost of service on these bikes is extremely high. If someone is after power you can't beat the k1600. I sold my newer RT to go out and buy a 2013 as I felt that was the best of the best for the RT. I did end up buying a honda F6B for a totally different experience. But that is another story!
@county_bear950912 күн бұрын
@TRCAdventures thank you for the response. I'll look into the cam head generation, particularly the 2013. My FJR tries to do the sport and touring but just ends up being too stiff for fun. Figured I'd get a new hayabusa as a sport-sport-tourer and the r1200rt as a sport-tourer-tourer. As for the F6B I looked into those too although it's not really my thing, I'm only 20 though. Good bike for twisties and around town, but at highway speeds, the buzz in the handlebars is rough. Once you hit 4000+ RPM, the vibrations get progressively worse, making cruising at 60+ mph pretty uncomfortable. It's a shame BMW didn’t smooth out those gnarly vibes in the twin-cylinder design.

I never noticed this one this bike, but have had people complain about it on the F800GS, , again never bothered me on that bike either. But it definitely has more vibes than my goldwing. Thanks for the tantalizing glimpse. I'm debating upgrading from a 1999 Valkyrie to an F6B. Probably 2013 to 2015, due to budget. It looks like an unbelievably huge pain in the butt to change the air filter from what I've seen so far. Have you experienced or do you know about any other maintenance woes?
@TRCAdventuresАй бұрын
@@heathenbiker my experience includes normal maintenance and adding electronic cruise control, which involves removal of fairing and gas tank.....felt as if I had completely disassembled the bike..... yikes! So replacing the air filter is a big job, for what on most bikes is a simple swap. It's not hard work just more than it should be! Adding cruise control is a complex and difficult job, it is worth an extra couple thousand to get a bike that has the OEM unit installed from the factory. I think the 2015 has that as an option.
@robertrickel920522 күн бұрын
I owned 7 Valkyrie motorcycles. Stock, Tourer, and Interstate. They are great bikes. I have owned 148 bikes of every make and kind over the last 55 years of riding. My daily rider for the last 11 years is a 2013 Honda F6B. I have put about 76,000 on it. It just does everything and does it well. 0-60 in about 3.4 seconds and will cruise comfortably all day long at 75mph and still gets over 40 mpg. I have short legs and a long torso so I made some modifications to mine. I got a Corbin seat which lowers me 1.5 inches in the seat for my short legs and put bar backs on the handlebars which raise them 2 inches and brings them back 1.5 inches so that I am not leaning forward because of my tall torso. I put a very good throttle lock on made by Brake a way which was way easier that installing an electric one. I also changed out the roller neck bearings for All Ballz tapered bearings. This totally eliminated the deceleration wobble and tire cupping that happens when you ride these bikes hard. Changing the air filter is not that hard. Pull it up on KZbin. It takes about 1.5 hours. I changed mine about every 30k miles and live on a dirt road and they were ready to be changed but not too bad. Changed my spark plugs at 54k and they looked brand new but I always run premium top tier gas. This is the best bike I have ever owned.

Nice video! I just picked up a well-used 07 R1200RT-P, the state police model, and have been working away at the issues associated with it sitting unused and perhaps a little neglected for awhile. Took one sporty test ride (the seller took my bike and led me through local twisties) and came back the next day with money and rode it home. It does need some work, but we have a nice shop here and I'm taking care of things. I like the slim police luggage. On the highway this thing is a shark. No lack of get up and go. At 60 it feels like it's sitting still, so I have to be careful not to get speeding tickets. Edit: because of the suspension, you can brake during turns. Not only that, but you can still dodge and weave obstacles during braking turns. Most bikes won't do those things so well.

I've owned a number of bikes in different styles, and while they were all great bikes and enjoyable to own, I just never felt that I had found "The One".....the bike that best suited my needs over as wide a range as possible. At 70, I sold my ADV bike and even considered putting an end to my riding.......until I found, in an unlikely coincidence, an ultra low mileage '05 R1200RT. I had long wished I could afford a new RT, but I struggled to justify that expenditure. I now own what is, for me, "The One". For a 19 year old motorcycle, I am constantly amazed at the satisfaction it delivers. Sure, it lacks many of the nice, and worthy, electronic features of the newer models, but it remains no slouch. For years, I wondered if the RT line was over-hyped, but now I know it was not. I can second pretty much everything stated about this bike in the review. Handling, comfort, reliability....zero complaints! To top ot off, the $23K plus that I saved over buying new pays for lots of miles on the road!

I've seen a R1200RT, nice bike, masive plastic everywhere, but, the maintenance seems to me very expensive, only change the cluch is over 1.000€. Mi cuetion is, the norge 1200 GTL is a truly rival for the BMW? for perfomance and reliability? Can do handle the amount of kilometers that i do every year without breaking my bank account? @TRCAdventures2 ай бұрын
Definitely right about the clutch on the RT, but they do last a long time! The other maintenance is easy, if you are a do it yourself person, and parts are readily available around the world. The Norge is a good basic motor and they have kept electronics to a minimum so that is helpful for long term maintenance. Getting parts is a bit more difficult that BMW and dealer network is smaller. With all that said, if you want the bike to last without drama and put a million miles on it in the process, I need to recommend Honda and as you know Suzuki is a great brand too.
