Is it possible to autoguide with the SAM? If yes, what do have to do exactly?

Great video! I used your process with success on my Tsuchinshan-ATLAS images from the past week. I did notice that the subtraction operation sometimes missed a few stars, which still led to streaks in my final image. In those cases, after CometAligning and using the stars image as the subtract operand, I ran a second "batch" SXT on the aligned files and all turned out well.

Thanks Jeremy. I wasn't sure how to hook up the polar scope and this solved where all the bits go. One point on using the compass. Have you ever noticed any problem with the metal in the SAM "pulling" the compass needle. With my EQ mount I need to keep the compass a couple of feet away. I do this by tying 2ft of string to the back of the mount (you could use the rear sight hole on the SAM) and then hold the compass over the end of the string pulling it taught. The mount is aligned north when the string goes down the middle of the compass (with the correct magnetic declination set). Not sure if this will be needed on a small lump of metal like this but be interesting to see if the needle swings any appreciable amount when brought near.

Have jus bought the SAM, and used it in a basic configuration , and it worked fine. But this video is superb and allow me to try so many options. Thank you... A question ... I have a Canon M5 camera, which works just fine here in astrophotography mode. But if I use any of the time lapse modes, I get a load of stills, not a video. Not totally unexpected, but are there any tricks for getting the Canon to record as a video? Or maybe a quick way to stack all these stills to a video on my PC. Thanks

I'll answer my own question here. Managed to use the astronomy program PIPP, which allows easty input of files, and converted my stills into an AVI file

My plate that mounts to the tracker at 5:00 is 3/8" but the hole in the tracker is like 1/4"... This is interesting
@hascheoptik7619Ай бұрын
Same for me, how did you fix that? I already thought im stupid
@danielashleybaker29 күн бұрын
@@hascheoptik7619 glad you asked. that hole has an adapter in it. All you need to do is use a flathead screwdriver and blackout the 1/4" to 3/8" thread adapter. you can almost do it with your finger, or anything flat, but a screwdriver is handy.

This is great. It definitely shows a significant ability to use your equipment to capture something so far away. The animation is so steady. I've started down the path and I'm learning some amazing things about camera mounts that track the sky and automatically go to the stars of your choice. Pure magic.

My mini, only 3 weeks old, has developed a problem. It wont power up via the batterys. It shuts down after 1 second. Also the batterys get hot after a 20 mins of been in the unit. It works fine via the usb port. It had been working fine up until today. Any ideas?

Had the same problem. My UK retailer arranged with the UK distributor to collect the SAM and it was replaced free of charge. New one works fine.

Hello Jeremy, This is a great piece of work and I love the fact you can see how busy our sky is. Can you explain what would typically turn direction in midflight? Between 32 seconds and 33 seconds their is somthing showing a skipping like trail.

Really good content, thank you. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to reduce or eliminate the moving screen animations. It is distracting and not needed for this type of content I don't think Thanks again,

Very cool. I'm a planetary imager and found this video compelling. I too am concerned that Registax is old. There is a new version. I have been using Astrosurface for my planetary processing. It will be wonderful if we can bring the power of PixInsight to planetary image processing. I look forward to more videos from you. Thanks
