I played some Candela Obscura and it was quite enjoyable to me. And I dont see why people bash on it so much. This is coming from someone who played Kult, Call of Cthulhu, etc.

Thanks so much for this interview, I love it! it speaks so much to the concept of PREP-WORK, not planning as a GM. How do we create problems for the players and ask leading questions - and watch them struggle in the muck of it? How do we pull them in and engage their backstories -- and watch them create the stories that surprise us and make those AHA moments!

Great interview! And oh, wow... I didn't expect to hear my channel come up <3. I did a Google search and people have used the term "Quantum Clues" before me. It's no surprise, really, given that it's derived from the "Quantum Ogre" (from the Hack & Slash blog from 2011).

This is gaslighting on what the word Zionist means. A Zionist is someone who believes Israel should exist. That’s it. Being a Zionist doesn’t preclude criticism or opposition to the actions of Israel or its government. Being an antiZionist means that you believe Israel should not exist. Before the creation of Israel more than 75+ years ago the discussions on being a Zionist or antiZionist were mostly speculative. Now that Israel has existed for generations being an antiZionist means being for the destruction of Israel, which would result in the deaths of millions of people. There’s no “antiseptic” way to deconstruct Israel. Being an antiZionist is also a code word for almost all antiZionists to disguise their Jew-hatred. I’ve seen this with a family member who said she was merely an antiZionist, but she quickly spiraled into classic Jew-hating conspiracy theories, such as: 1. Israelis are all Nazis. 2. Jews were behind the wars that broke up Yugoslavia. 3. People only care about Jews because they have all the money. 4. Some Christians only care about Jews because Jews are just a subtype of Christian. (This is especially stupid.) She almost instantly stopped making any distinction between Jews and Israel, and she was clearly using antiZionism as a cover for her Jew-hatred. She is not a conservative of any kind, but a strong and vocal ally of the LGBTQ+ community, feminism and the BDS movement. At the end of the day, regardless of her claim to just being an antiZionist, it comes down to she hates Jews. This is seen with many others who claim that antiZionism has nothing to do with hating Jews. It’s BS. It’s the same worthless excuse used by the people who attacked the synagogue in Los Angeles a couple of days ago; a modern day pogrom in America. The Crit Awards could have made statements calling for a cease fire, increased humanitarian aid, or criticisms of the Netanyahu government, and they would not have been booted from Gen Con. By taking a position that is specifically antiZionist they became a hate organization.

I think it's also a part of "intention" of the DM, as if party (especially in a serious high-stakes campaign) might try to guess what is the right course of action and can be too cautious of potential dangers ahead, or if it's live to get scared of doing something that you as DM havent planned for them to do, which sounds silly but can be stressful. I think one of the good ways to give them an opening for example is to suggest "whatever checks you want to make here, investigation, percpetion, etc, feel free to do so now", if you want your players to get something specific in a new place. Then they may feel more confident to act on their own, or if it's "You don't notice any danger or curio looking through this thing here, but there's a weird sense like you're missing/forgetting something/being watched", they will at least feel like this is a moment to be more attentive or serious. The other way to engage specific players more is to mention to them separately that something in the scene might be connected to their backstory, or subject of interest (a familiar looking clan banner for somebody figuring their past or rows of scrolls and books for a wizard, or maybe one of your members is very mucn into cooking and you describe an unusual aroma coming from the pot in the room of the inn that they never smelled before lol). They will know that is a cue for them to step forward and be in action, opposed to waiting for somebody from the group to make a desicion for everyone. I think direcrly asking what your players want to do is a bit too liberating and usually works in a no-stakes-shenanigans-only games where everybody has the luxury to act out of turn and just be irresponsible. Giving a couple of options to narrow it down may help, I've been in a situations like this where plyers just freeze for a moment trying to figure out the next move and it can be awkward. Good luck with your game though!
