I’ve had the gift of knowing two veterans who flew the P-38. One French. One American. Both fascinating.

As for her question of military planes the US has their own airplane boneyard in the Arizona desert.
@stevehicks894415 күн бұрын
I knew it as White Industries; bought parts from them for nearly two decades. I even sent a couple of aircraft out there because we couldn’t get new windshields for them.

Very interesting and informative. Well it’s like a car, truck, or bus. Eventually, they just get too old to be of cost effective use.

Why don’t they recycle these planes?

Junkyards are sad places. Just think they use to be factory new.

@@johnLA1961 True but time does indeed march on. Years from now they’ll be old BOEING products in these places since they are sadly building crap now.

Of all the liberated nations of Europe I have always found the Dutch people to be the ones that show the upmost respect and gratitude for the young men of all nations who died to bring Europe freedom from Nazi tyranny. Thank you again from the son of a WW2: British veteran.

I think this applies well to the person sitting during his commute to work, where he sits all day before sitting on the journey home. Then he goes through the drive thru, sits on his riding mower while his bike tires are flat from non-use.

I have a cousin that was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at 0130 hours at the hamlet of Hatenboer (Limburg), 3 kms south west of Roermond, Holland, Robert is still in his plane, there is a book about it, though written in Dutch, but is a great read, written by Wim Kooijman, the book is called - "De Lancaster ED 363 - Die Crashte in Hatenboer Roermond", May Robert (Bob) Rest in Peace

Very interesting video I have learned a lot and the video is top notch. It was always my understanding airplane parts could not be reused they were required to be replaced with new parts. Glad to know someone goes through the trouble to recycle these planes there are plenty of them out there.

The question no one seems to really want to answer his how many blue on blues there where in these formations. If you've ever done trap shooting this somewhat easier to imagine, think of how much of the background you notice when tracking a clay. They flew in boxes of 27.......so theres what potentially 200 .50 brownings all firing at a 109 flying through the middle of the box...........and these where gung ho kids to boot.

My dad and his brothers were Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII. They volunteered to fight with one of my uncles being shot in the leg in Italy with the 442nd. He actually moved to Europe after the war because of racism he faced in the US. He actually settled in southeast Netherlands where he became a pretty well known sculptor.
