Front toss is okay, side toss is not. No one ever swings at a ball during a game from that angle.

This is the exact kind of video I've been looking for to explain it clearly to my son playing his first year in 8U. All his teammates, save two, have played for 3yrs and understand the game very well already. This will help him catch up pretty quick.

Because he’s the catcher 🤦‍♂️ he has a base it’s youth baseball you’re not gonna see a catcher backing up 3rd base or anything like that

Bunt defense strategies could change for different age groups, since the dimension of the bases change and from Coach to Coach depending on what they want to accomplish or their strategy. I don't like when bunt defense is explained like the players are Robots, as you moving and reading you or the entire team should be making quick adjustments and decisions. Me in particular i like to throw out first If we can the runner on 3B, that's my priority. That's why is called Bunt defense, if you don't get that runner on 3B out your defense against bunt failed, the opposing team accomplished and executed their play/goal, which is moving the runners closer to the plate. Btw, LF should be backing up 3B.

I understand the logic in both your explanation and the video but they don't match! If you are these kids coach then you need to work on getting the message since in the board (1.25") you said the 1B reads the bunt to 3B and heads back and in your vid neither at 0.48" or 2' he does that but is the 2Baseman who gets the throw!

The coach in the video says that the video covers cutoffs with no one on, a man on first, and runners on first and second, but the video doesn't show runners at first and second. Do you have another video that covers cutoffs with runners at first and second?

Because you would automatically throw home. Runners on first and second is the same situation as if a runner is just on second. You will be shooting home.

In your video, you say the 1B held and recieved the throw. It is clear that your 1B is charging on the bunt, and the 2B recieves the throw. I believe the execution on the video is correct, but the narration is definitely off. If the pitcher is LHP, the 1B has to charge on any bunt attempt, and I'd argue on him not charging on any bunt attempt. If the ball gets by the pitcher, it is likely all hands will be safe.

First off that's not a bunt that's a damn ground ball to the third baseman. Second if if a normal bunt happened to that side why wouldn't the 3rd baseman stay home so the pitcher can field it and take a chance at gettin the runner out at the 3rd if the catcher tells him he has time ?
@ericjohnson4877
@ericjohnson4877 8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Lewis if the bunt is so hard that it gets by the pitcher, the 3B has to forego getting the lead runner and take the out at first. The alternative with runners on first and second is the wheel play where the SS breaks before the pitch to cover third so the 3B can charge and hope to get the force at third.

I prefer to put the right foot on the bag rather than sweep for players at the HS level or below. The umpires aren't keen on giving you "in the vicinity" force outs at second base.

On balls thrown from the out field to either third or home in particular the cut off person should place himself in such a depth and in line with the receiving players base that the thrown ball can travel just above his/her head to enable him to handle the ball when necessary and deep enough to skip very low to the surface so as to allow the low positioned baseman, catcher to apply the tag right on the runner, one hoppers are by far the best way to receive throws. Well, be smart about it. You need to be aware of your surroundings. I have my boys place their heel on the bag, that way their stretch is still effective, and they're able to still make the play.

You do have the second baseman as the relay man if its a double off the wall though correct?
@bigrreecea7821
@bigrreecea7821 7 жыл бұрын
Be Limitless I know this is old but if anyone is wondering, Yes! Ball hit to right center wall with at least a runner on first, you will tandum relay to home. 2nd leads out with short about 10ft behind him to receive any bad throws. 1st covers 2nd. 3rd is on 3rd. Pitcher back up home. You can cut to 2 or 3 on this relay but main goal is to get runner from first out at home.

You would rather have the RF make the longer throw as he has his momentum moving towards 3rd Base already...With the 2nd baseman cutting there would be a large gap between the cutoff man and third base. Meanwhile, if you have the SS be the cutoff, the RF can make that throw and there isn't as much of a gap between the cutoff and 3rd Base.

Actually you should think more gun fighter. Pointing the palm of your glove to the sky pre loads your forearm and adds a move to the hit ball. Inefficient.
