Savotta recently came out with pack straps in brown to match the Brown Jaakari M. 80cm and 120cm. (also in green and black) That will make attaching my Carinthia Defense 4 Sleeping Bag to the bottom of the pack much easier. Thought I'd pass that along for other OCD viewers! LOL

nice run down! Do you take this with as an emergency shelter on day hikes? Does it retain much heat without a sleeping bag in it. Wonder what temps you could get down to with this and just a liner or something in Summer.
@CDPOutdoors
@CDPOutdoors 8 күн бұрын
Thank you, Dave. On all the longer day hike's I do, and the more difficult shorter day hike's. On its own you can feel the wind hitting it and cooling the material down, at the same time you can feel the heat it is holding in and keeping you warmer than without. You can feel the difference when using it with a sleeping bag or top quilt, I have to adjust the zip to regulate the heat. All the best. Clive. 🤠

Good morning Clive , hope all is happy and well with you ? . Another great and informative review mate of some great kit . As mentioned in previous reply comments , I only have the standard helikon-tex bivy bag and I am very happy with that , no issues with it since I bought it a year or so ago . The special forces bivy bag is massive , I could fit two of me in it , plenty of room to wriggle around inside and I am a bit of a wriggler until I find my happy comfortable place and go to sleep 🤣 . On another note , finally purchased my Geopress and nesting cup set and should receive it early next week , can,t wait , 😁 . I was chatting with Al earlier in the week when I ordered my Grayl and he mentioned to me when you last came to visit the shop and I thought that you two should go on an adventure together since you live close by and visit the shop regularly and Al often goes out bush to test new kit , I,m sure you both would have a good old time . Anyway Clive , take care mate and have a good weekend and I will look forward to your next adventure / review , regards and best wishes , Ken 👍 🙂 . PS: Your prep room is looking great too , your prep table is bigger than I thought , plenty of room to lay all your kit on , 👍 🙂 .

You should be using 15-18 grams per 250-60 ml of water. It looks like you used way to much. You should also stir the coffee (either with a spoon or swirl it). For a single cup (250ml) you should aim for a brew time around 2-3 minutes. You can use paper filters with these aswell, and they make better coffee in my opinion. There are plenty of videoes on youtube on how to use this correctly, but I must say it is a bit infuriating watching these videos when there is zero attempt to actually learn how to use the brewer and just expect it to make decent coffee when using it wrong. Every brewer has the capacity to make decent coffee, although immersion brews are usually easier than percolation.

A few days ago (4 July) I used my Snug Pak bivvy with a down quilt. It was at Sues Bridge near Nannup and the temperature minimum was 4C. It worked well and I was warm and slept well. The bivvy bag was like ice to touch but under the quilt was warm. I slept under a tarp with an insect net. The quilt is an older down bag that I had modified to be a quilt. The zip was removed, a foot box was sewn in, and a 20cm raw ripstop nylon flap was sewn in all around the edges. The flap goes under the sleeper and keeps the quilt on top, around the neck it acts like a curtain and keeps the heat in. If you have an old down or synthetic quilt that still has a good loft, but maybe a dead zip or other issue, you can get a local sewing person to modify it into a quilt, which can be light because it has no zip. When they cut the seams, down can go everywhere,, so you need to allow the sewing person time to get organised and be ready for the down. It cost about $100 to get the sewing done. I have a synthetic quilt which is a Ray Way quilt as well as the down one. The synthetic quilt is great and a lot more robust, but it takes up more space in a pack. You do not have to pay $300 for a new quilt if you already have a sleeping bag that can be modified. I often need to get up in the night and I hate zips. I don't know how I would go with four laters of zips, but with the quilt there are no zips and getting in and out is not complicated.
@CDPOutdoors
@CDPOutdoors 8 күн бұрын
I have been looking at heading down that way to do a bit of exploring. Yep, it is cold to touch, but it stops a lot of heat escaping. Always good to re-purpose kit, you get a good feeling & save some money at the same time. I have a sewing machine of my own, I enjoy learning and just getting stuck in and giving it a go. Zip's can be a pain. Take care. All the best. Clive. 🤠

Good morning Clive , hope all is well and good with you ? . Really enjoy your outdoor adventures , such never ending breathtaking beauty and peaceful serenity out there , who would ever want to travel overseas when we have all this in our own backyard which would take us 10 life times to actually see and experience it all anyway ??? , 🥰 . I hope to travel to WA in the ( hopefully ) not so distant future ( being a New South Welshman ) and experience as much as the beauty that WA has to offer for myself and also meet our friend Al ( SSA ) for the first time as an extra bonus , 😁 . Look forward to your next adventure Clive , regards and best wishes , Ken , 👍🙂 .

@@CDPOutdoors , Good morning Clive , I am well , thanks for asking mate , but beyond the never ending rain and strong winds , I,m sure I would be having a wonderful time ( bad weather with cold winds and rain mainly over the past two weekends so no adventures for me , 😝 ) . Next time you visit Al , let him know if you would that Ken from NSW ( he will know ) said hi and send my regards and best wishes . I will certainly let you know when I make the trip over there Clive and maybe when I meet Al , we could meet as well if you where interested ? ( two meet and greets at the same time for the price of one would be a good deal ) and I will also certainly bring my kit with me , don,t go anywhere without my kit in the car , whether near or far . I will look forward to your next adventures Clive , always enjoy them and get more ideas from them for my own adventures . Take care out there Clive , regards and best wishes mate , Ken 👍🙂 . P.S : my next investment from Al will be the Geopress and matching nesting cup / pot and then after that , I have decided to invest in the Jungle Bag after watching your review so I will be well set up once that final piece of the kit is added to my sleep systems and will cover all weather and climate , 😁 .
