It's lovely. I'm glad you grew pumpkins again. I like the Dickenson ones a lot. I am in FL but wish I could visit your lovely patch and buy some pumpkins and zinnias. I hope next year you'll post updates of the growth of your field. I love seeing the plants grow over the months since it seems pumpkins just pop up in stores and tents here in early Fall, but no one knows how the plants grow.

We may grow less since we have to do a Guitar show for 10-12 days in October every year. This is our 19th year of doing the same show. I am not here to sell them. I'm glad you like the videos. Not many folks watch them. It's not about making any revenue from the few videos I do.

@@vancochran7344 I understand. I have been on youtube since 2007 and it was so much better then. There weren't as many ads, and people didn't make money here. Though thinking this can be a full time job is a big lie. I will never use my channel to make money. People need to get out and have real jobs. KZbin should be a hobby for anyone to use as a means to talk to other people not to try to get "famous". I always have posted videos because I like them. I am not hear to chase meaningless views. I have maybe 3 active commenters on my channel. That's all I need. I'm glad you feel the same way. I'm happy to be one of the few active loyal watchers you have here. I like the stuff you post. My husband plays guitar by the way.

I have not posted as many videos this year. I posted the one today for the lady that is buying 1,000 pounds worth for a Labor Day Festival. I have not posted too many of the new harvest of the ones we grow for the folks that own the land we grow them for. I have my own I grow on My land too.

Look at them in a vase. My wife just likes them. I let people come get what they want Free most of the time. I posted another short video of a new 1/2 acre field I planted 5,000 seeds in. Overkill but with the rain in doubt most may not ever grow!

About 9 acres and we only got 4300 pumpkins. The weather was not great. Too little rain and too many weeds. The herbicide we chose was not great. We will try a different Herbicide next year. Sandea might be better.

I buy Mostly from Harris seeds in New York, but I also buy from Johnnys Seeds and a few from Sustainable Seeds and I buy from a dealer in Shipshewana, Indiana named TC Hardware. He sells on EBAY. I will help you with any questions you might have.

@@vancochran7344 ok thank you! I got mine at Johnnys but they don’t have a huge variety of specialty varieties. My biggest question is even with you spraying your pumpkins with liquid Sevin dust (I think that’s what you told me you did), do you still lose a lot of plants to vine borers and squash bugs? So do you just have to over plant what you think you’ll need to take into account the loss? Also how do you control the weeds in that big of a patch!?

@@ReidsRootsShoots It is actually a Liquid Sevin that is mixed by the company. I buy it by the gallon. Yes, we still lose some plants at the end of August but when you plant May 16th like we do the pumpkins are mostly formed and turning by then. If the vines die it makes little difference in the end. I guess overall it might make a big difference if we were growing 200 acres, but we don't grow that many. You can use NEEM oil too. That controls bugs as well as Powdery Mildew. You can buy it off Amazon. It will Kill cucumber beetles too.

@@ReidsRootsShoots Most all the ones I plant take 100-110 days. I don't plant many 90-day pumpkins very often. If I have a 120-day variety I have to plant them earlier.

That is incredible. Just that is enough to fill one of our pumpkin patch tents down here in FL. I love the Dickinson pumpkins. And Captain Jacks for being tall with crazy thick handles. I love all pumpkins really. They are all amazing. Congrats.

Ok I watched all your videos. Just gonna comment here. I loved everything you showed. I love gourds so those apple gourds will be nice. Those Captain Jacks are awesome. LOVE the handles and that most are upright. The harvest is amazing already. I wish I could grow pumpkins like that.

I'm not sure how many more years I can do this. I'm 70 and every year it gets a little harder to get everything picked. I have hauled 5 loads and the totals are over 526 pumpkins so far.

Wow I loved that one next to your foot. I like tall pumpkins. I also love them with thick stems. Are you growing the variety Wolf this year? I love the handles on those.

The big ones are all Captain Jack. Some wholesale places call them by another name. Some call them Apprentice. Wolf pumpkins are a smaller variety with a giant stem, only up to 24 pounds. I have had one Captain Jack weigh 39 pounds this year.

Thanks! I got 42 free skids from a place in Morton, Illinois. They had maybe 150 more. I went up there to get 24 Gaylord boxes to put pumpkins in for this year's harvest. I use wooden pallets under the Gaylords because these plastic ones slip around with a box on them.

Aww those are all so lovely. I enjoy your pumpkin updates so much because I just can't grow pumpkins down here. I've tried and tried and tried. Apple Gourds are cute. They can be used for bird houses too and cut in half for bowls. I actually like the peppery smell of gourds. The fuzzy leaves may be what deters insects too. They do grown here for me, but not pumpkins. I've had minimal success with pumpkins in the C. moschata species. Basically stuff related to butternut like cinderella pumpkins. Even our native seminole pumpkin is hard in my area. But yeah basically out of luck when it comes to true jackolanterns C. pepo types.

Oh wow, yes it was good she at least told you about the accident and not running away. But yes you have so many luckily not a big loss. Love all the pumpkins growing. And I like the sunflowers too. I would buy zinnias and sunflowers. Do you have a store? You often mention people can come in but you never say where. If you have a computer the best thing would be to use a cheap point and shoot camera. They record in good quality at 1080. These videos are 480. You could then take the memory card out, put it in the computer and upload to youtube. Or use the cable and hook the camera to the computer the way you charge a phone.

I found some Montana Gold's yesterday that must be close to 35 pounds already. I was out of space on my camera (phone). I will try and make a short video of them. They can get up to 60 pounds.

I LOVE zinnias. They attract hummingbirds and they're easy to grow. Toss and forget. Last year I grew a tiny patch of like three packets from one of the hardware stores. I love that long row. I'm glad you said where you got them. I went and looked. Wish I could afford that many. I remember you trying to sell them last year. Too bad they didn't do well.

Awesome. The pumpkins look great. I'm in FL and we have weird season. We can't really grow pumpkins because of the bugs, heat and disease, but home gardeners can if we plant the first season in Feb and the second season in sept. Of course that totally misses Halloween and Thanksgiving, but I love pumpkins year round. I'm sure those little pumpkins you have will eventually catch up and be right on time.

The pumpkins @ 5:21 are actually Montana Gold. I said Captain Jack. I got them mixed up. That happens when you have 43,000 seeds planted.

Sugar Pie varieties are very small. Try getting some called Howden or Howden Biggie. They are a great size and are easy to grow. You can buy them from Harris seeds in New York.

@@ronaldocolosio7920 I don't know about that pumpkin (ragder)? Where do you live? In the US? That might help out. I buy from a lot of places. Any pumpkin that is listed as 15-20 pounds will work well. Most take 100 days to grow.

@@vancochran7344 Well, I'm from Mexico :( and here there aren't many varieties of pumpkin that we can say and I would like to try to plant Halloween but the truth is that there are not everywhere and well, as I see the ragder pumpkin appears as Big max and well it says that it reaches 100 pounds but anyway I will continue looking for more types of pumpkin that are smaller and well thanks friend for the advice they are very much appreciated

@@ronaldocolosio7920 Big Max are a lot of work but you can do it if you have the space and the time. I got a few seeds from the Colorado State Record Holder. One weighed #1676 Pounds. Check his Cannel out on your Tube. His name is Chad New. He sent me 5 seeds and I started them all. As long as you water the plants and spray for insects and fertilize the Big Max will grow.

I LOVED this video. Amazing harvest of 5000 plus pumpkins you and your wife grew. That farm is very cool to take all your pumpkins. I'm glad you showed the buildings and landscape too and not just looking down all the time. I love the Montana pumpkins and the wolf pumpkins. I hope I can grow some Wolf pumpkins this year. I really like the hard shelled gourds. Those are some of my fave and some rare types grow out there. I'm trying to grow giant African Wine Kettles and Zucca. I have one sprout of AWK but no Zucca yet. I like all pumpkins so you showed some very cool ones. The prices are great. I'll probably watch this video again. I really enjoy them.

Nice!!!!!!! I love how organized you are. Do you worry about the heat under the tarps? I’d love to see how you harvest- or am I just not remembering seeing that video. Do you wash them at all? They look pretty clean!

We wash all of them, even the gourds. The boxes and tarps are in the shade under the trees, It can get hot. Our partners come and take the boxes and put them inside their barn. Nice airflow and then no need to have anything covered with a tarp.. Over the next few days they will be putting them out on mulch to sell.

@@MitzaCreek We use 1/2 of a plastic 55 gallon barrel and use a black tub with diluted water and bleach water to dip them in after we wash them. We use large soft scrub brushes on them to remove the soil. The knuckleheads are the hardest to clean. You can see the wash station in my last video. It's blue and the diluted bleach water is in a black tub.

Oh my goodness. That is just amazing and so lovely. I would be so happy to grow that many pumpkins. I LOVE the Tandy pumpkins. I have some seeds of those I just got and hope to start them soon. I love the Wolf pumpkins too. I like big handles. One Too Many is my fave pumpkin. Perhaps one day I should save up and order one big box like that. My Walmart just got a shipment in. Usually in the first week of Sept, but it's only one box a year so not good if you get there late. But regular white and orange they always have plenty of.

I would try starting your pumpkins earlier. If you plant them now even the short varieties will not be done for 89-90 days. We planted our longest ones (120) days back in May on the 13th-15th.

@@vancochran7344 I'm in Florida. They can't be started earlier because of the heat, bugs and diseases. I have been trying planting during normal seasons for years with disappointing failure. I'm thinking the key is our off season. I won't have any for Halloween or Thanksgiving that's for sure but things are finally "cooling" into the mid 80s here and there are fewer bugs. I'm hoping for pumpkins by Christmas. The other season is to plant on Valentine's day before the heat of summer and hope they don't die in June so I can have pumpkins by 4th of July. I have yet to try that season. Our cold winter is Janurary - February. I don't have a greenhouse or that would be the best especially if it had AC.

@@vancochran7344 Thanks. Yes I know they take a long time. Wish we could grow normally but I think pumpkins year round is a great thing too. I just hope this works. Here we don't have real pumpkin patches where you can pick from the vine. We have tents on road sides that are "patches". The state can't produce pumpkins on an agricultural scale. So, we have to import all our pumpkins from other states this time of year. They are all in those big boxes you have at the stores and tents.

I have now watched all your videos. I so enjoyed that. What an amazing season and you have 847 pumpkins. Wow that would be a dream come true for me. I'm in Florida and it's darn near impossible to grow them here with our heat, bugs and disease. Although I am trying again now that things will cool off and fewer bugs. So no Halloween or Thanksgiving if I'm successful. They will be Christmas or New Years pumpkins. I love your zinnias and sunflowers too. How do you plant the zinnias? Do you just toss the seeds on the ground. I know you buy in bulk but I just went to Home Depot and bought four packets. I post videos of my progress if you'd like to see. I'd love to see next time how the pumpkins are picked. Oh and that camera that gave you trouble. You might be able to buy a decent used point and shoot that does 1080 p so the picture will be nicer and fill the screen more. Though this is way better than those terrible cellphone videos that are so skinny. I've seen that mini documentary on the pump by Baker Creek.

You have an actual pumpkin farm, not just a patch. Those are lovely. I am trying to grow pumpkins too. Have not had luck in the past. I love gourds too and hope to start some soon. My Montana pumpkins are more Red than orange. I planted them late so they never got as big as they should have. They can get up to 65 pounds. I have a few that got up to 25-26 pounds. They have a bump on the bottom so some do not sit up right for carving. They are very edible though.

Looking nice! Our carvers are just starting to get an orange tint, so yours are a lot further ahead than us.
