I've only once see water in the Comanches fuel and I dont know what caused it, possibly not flying the aircraft for a few months. I wonder if it takes into account weather conditions over time at where ever its parked. It's cool knowing there's actually a purpose to the walkaround though.

@@seeingeyegod I don't know whether it's weather-related or random or a combination of both, but I did have it happen once also. I've also had a broken rudder linkage, a flap out of alignment (which rubbed and squeaked between settings), and a rag left in the engine intake. It keeps you on your toes!

I recently bought this (after thoroughly enjoying the 414) and it's a blast, especially in VR! Mapped the majority of my hardware bindings via Spad, which is such and awesome tool. Like you, I started this hobby roughly four decades ago as a teen. That was in the mid 1980's when MSFS's default airport was Meigs and the default aircraft was the Lear 35. I spent countless hours in that thing and the Skyhawk, lol. From that passion, I eventually went on to get my PPL in the late 1990's. So, having one of this level of detail and quality in the sim, is a dream come true! Your video is very helpful to the new users of such a uniquely different bird to anything else in the sim........Well done...Thanks! Haven't flown a real jet in my 25 years as a private pilot, but this thing is a treat! 😅

Hi again. When I set the ILS frequency, do I need to do that in the gtn750 that I use, or just the nav in aircraft?
@SlantAlphaAdventures
@SlantAlphaAdventures 24 күн бұрын
I'm not 100% familiar with that setup... but the lower-end Garmin units are essentially substitutes for COM1/NAV1, while I'm pretty sure the higher-end Garmin units actually substitute for both COM1/NAV1 and COM2/NAV2. I would guess that if you are setting an ILS frequency somewhere, that's probably sufficient; I wouldn't think you'd need to do it twice. Generally you set the primary approach frequency in NAV1 and then (if applicable) the nav-aid for the Missed Approach Procedure in NAV2.

@SlantAlphaAdventures
@SlantAlphaAdventures Ай бұрын
@pgreenx depends on what you're doing. it's equivalent to real-world. VFR from non-towered into Class E, you aren't required to talk to anyone even if everything is staffed. but Flight Following is available, workload-permitting.

Yep, sometimes you have to remind VATSIM controllers that VFR aircraft outside of Bravo, Delta, and Charlie airspace don't need to talk to anyone. File feedback on the ARTCC's website if you have an issue you can't quickly resolve on-air, and the ARTCC's training staff can look at it and help the controller understand. It's a limitation that VATSIM controllers deal with mostly jet IFR traffic and forget how the other stuff works -- but the only way to fix it is to make sure they see more of it!

@SlantAlphaAdventures
@SlantAlphaAdventures Ай бұрын
Keep in mind that this video was published over three and a half years ago, so, it's not exactly fresh in my mind, LOL. However, it is true that sometimes VATSIM controllers "assume" or "presume" you want Flight Following when you call up for a VFR departure. If it's done completely properly, a Delta controller really should just sequence VFR flights out of the airspace squawking 1200, and let the pilot contact the overlying radar sector with their FF request if they want it. The line gets a little blurry because when a VATSIM Approach/Departure controller is also posing as a Class D Tower (via the "top-down" staffing thing), they just set you up with Flight Following semi-automatically under the presumption you want it. I don't remember exactly what happened here, like I said -- but it's just one of those things we kinda roll with given that VATSIM ATC gets a tiny fraction of the training that their real-world counterparts receive, and most of that training and experience is with IFR traffic.

The stress of a busy channel sometimes makes you as the controller feel like you need to speed up in order to keep up. I'm guilty of it too! A lot of times, the more experienced pilots can keep up with it just fine, because it's mostly the same canned phrases over and over and all you really need to listen out for is the waypoint name and/or the number. Inexperienced pilots suffer because they have NOT heard that same basic phrase 100 times before. The reality is that when I as a controller start to go "down the tubes" it's usually NOT because I'm not talking fast enough, but because I'm not being efficient enough. I.e. I'm taking three or four instructions to accomplish what really could be done in one or two. Again, sometimes that comes with the territory of dealing with amateur rather than professional ATC.

@0_venix_0 basically, the answer is -- how strictly you wish to adhere to realism in that regard is up to you. certainly you MAY replicate a real-world route, and if you do, you MAY choose to use the corresponding flight ID. or, if you want to be seen as a British Airways jet and be called "Speedbird" something, but you wanna fly from an origin and/or to a destination that BAW doesn't really do (or maybe it's a route they do fly but you just wanna use a different number), you can use BAW plus a made-up flight ID.

My father has 2100 hours as PIC in this airplane. He flew N135LJ. You sir 23:45 have the keys to the castle for this airplane. My dads mantra was needle ball airspeed. There plane had a different AOA indicator that was installed in the 1990's. Dont ever hesitate to reduce power or increase climb rate in VS mode if your speed is out of control after take off. At a certain point you can pitch/trim down as far as possible and the climb power of this airplane can continue direct to 41000. Stalling this airplane dirty at 110 knots with a full power input will only loose 320ft of altitude. Im glad the simulator gives this classic plane the respect it deserves.... Even if its kind of a cross country Ferrari.

Routing is complicated.... more than I could cover in this tutorial. Mostly you want to ensure you're following standard airways for the majority of your route. Whether you include SIDs and STARs with your routing depends on (a) whether your origin and destination have them, and (b) whether it's customary in your region to include them in your filed route. In short, it's definitely something you want to research, but more than I can cover in one single tutorial.

Yep, there's no problem using a defunct or even a fictional one! As for Iron Maiden -- last I heard, they were being transported in a 747 operated by Air Atlanta Icelandic, ICAO callsign ABD ("Atlanta"), and would fly "Ed Force One" under the callsign ABD666 ("Atlanta Six Sixty-Six"). There are even some videos from around 8 years ago on the VASAviation channel where you can hear them talking with ATC. Search "ABD666" on KZbin and many of them will turn up. I'm not sure whether that is more recent or more historic than Cardiff's tenure.

@SlantAlphaAdventures
@SlantAlphaAdventures 3 ай бұрын
the number one reason this happens is the callsign you filed under doesn't EXACTLY match the callsign you connected under. the number two reason is that you mistyped your origin airport ID. as an example, the Tower controller at KMCI won't be able to see your flightplan if you accidentally entered it as KCMI. the third reason might be that you're VFR within the US. a recent change with the US radar client makes this more realistic. VFR flights in the US simply have to advise their intentions verbally. some newer VATSIM controllers may not fully understand VFR procedure and think they should be seeing your plan -- or they may misunderstand and think you're IFR. if it's not one of those three cases, consider using VAT-Spy and going to the "flights" tab to see if there's something pre-filed under your CID and figure out why it isn't matching.
