I had 2 10" MTX RoadThunder subs in their own seperate smaller boxes (meant for use in small pickups like a chevy s10 extended cab) and a vintage a California amp - used a battery charger on a big battery (Out of a diesel truck or semi - either or, they are both about the same size - like twice as big as a regular car battery) Deck was powered by a xbox brick power supply the deck supplied the power to 2 6 inch 3 way clarion speakers. 4x50W which is pretty standard - It was all on a tool cart - was fun at house parties back in the day!

I ran this with 4 12w6 jl audio subs in a sealed custom box in a 7 series bmw and hit 146 bd in a bass off. This amp was insane back then. I then switched to a ported setup and hit 149bd. Still have the trophys somewhere lol

I'm good whatever people want to do. For me, accuracy helps tremendously with songs that don't feel right or sound odd w/ported. That's why I prefer sealed.

I had the Precision Power Art Series amps for my mids and highs back around 1989 and then 5-10 years ago I bought 5 more great ones with some large one that had these gray like adjustable crossover dials on top- Plus 4 Orion 2150sx amps and their largest 2250sx amp with a Fan in the center with a protective like see through like steel cover in a circle over the it. I’d sell a couple of the 2150sx amps plus I have the Precision Art Series amps I also have in black with same shape/models yet etched in red writtings.

Regarding your buddies s10...My local audio shop that went out of business years ago had a black s10 with exact same tilt bed and it had 8 12" mtx 5000s if memory serves me. That picture just took me back 25 years. 😂

Here's some information for those interested: With sealed you basically trade lower linear distortion for higher non-linear distortion. By linear distortion in this case I mean phase shift and the derivative of this means lower group delay with the sealed box. With a vented box it can theoretically be compensated for with a FIR-based DSP-unit but would require an immense amount of calculating power (taps) to have necessary resolution in the lower frequencies. Most of the difference we hear between a sealed and ported enclosure is due to the frequency response. EQ the boxes the to the same response and they will sound similar generally. Vented boxes are indeed more efficient and can be far louder at (and around) the tuning frequency of the enclosure but will require a ton of power to do so. At the tuning frequency the speaker excursion will hit a low point and the air velocity through the vent will be at the maximum point. This allows for for SPL without running into the excursion limits of the speaker but it still needs to operate within thermal power levels. The lower excursion of a vented box lowers the non-linear distortion (harmonic and intermodular distortion) which cannot be removed with processing. A speaker enclosure always have abide by Hoffmans law, in order to have greater low end extension and high efficiency the box needs to be larger. Nothing comes for free. You can run sealed, vented, bandpass boxes and even other exotic box types in a SQ system and make it sound good. In a car it's often space restraints, acoustic issues and processing complexity that limits what you can do. I prefer vented boxes in general, not all drivers is optimal for vented systems though. For infinite baffle or sealed boxes it doesn't matter that much, they are very forgiving. Especially in a car, you get a lot of output for free in such small space. Generally you want low Fs, mid to high Q and high Xmax for sealed. In a sealed box the amount of air it can move is directly proportional to SPL, in other words (cone area * excursion).

I'd say 2,200 watts is pretty good for $82. In fact, it's kinda crazy when you can get 1,000 watts at 4 ohms. And the amp has a fan for cooling. Very surprised.
