Magic player, shit sell-out of a human....his conspiring with the Goodes camp & by extension Gill & Lachlan Murdoch to drag our clubs name & reputation through the mud, will remain unforgivable to me.

His choke in the 2016 Qualifying final post siren still burns deep- moreso as he cost us the chance at a 4-peat......up there with Clinton Youngs rubber legs in the 2012 Grand Final.

They were so good in the 80’s, reckon I was at all those games.

Whatever you say about Dermie being a “thug”, you have to admit he got as good as he gave. Unlike many players he never cried when he copped it back, just got on with the game. 1989 Grand Final a case in point. Could have sooked to the umpires about reporting Yates but instead just went to full forward and kicked a goal. I am a Hawthorn supporter FYI. 👍👍👍👍

For years Sam was my favourite non-Geelong player (being a Cats supporter) and having just watched these amazing highlights it's not hard to understand why. Sam had incredible elite kicking and handball skills on both sides of the body which is 'rare to see' and are as good as any footballer that I've seen play the game but it also made him incredibly dangerous with so many attacking options and accordingly, was so hard to defend against. He also had this twinkle toes agile allusiveness, akin to dancing on a dime which made him almost impossible to tackle or stop distributing the ball, that along with his single-minded mental and physical toughness, along with his natural born instincts of reading the play that made him the complete small-size player. It also should be noted that having seen all of the great Hawthorn vs Geelong battles over the journey, as good as Lance Franklin, Luke Hodge, Cyril Rioli, Shaun Burgoyne and Jarryd Roughead were as footballers, it was always Sam Mitchell who was continually the biggest threat to the Cats in all of those great games, which just further highlights the fact of how great of a footballer Sammy was.... a 'champion footballer' was Sam Mitchell in every respect.

An absolute superstar of the 70s. If not for injuries, Knights could have been a dual brownlow medallist.

suckling reminds me of the old afl pc games, where once you pressed to kick, it went into this same pre-baked motion of kicking for each type of kick. The 7:07 highlight exemplifies what I mean. Was such a valuable player to just pop up and do something, just like Youngy before him.
