They cheated. Using trumpets to play the impossible trombone part.

Interesting… why did SCV memorize/play this? Combined performance with Scouts?
@MrSteve162

Scouts and SCV used to get together during tour and have a sort of family day together and do a joint performance in a park. This arrangement was in our repertoire for maybe a decade so we could perform it with them.

I would attend a black tie symphonic concert that only played Cartoon theme songs.

Man, it's hard to find TEN musicians with the lip and timing for this song. They nailed it in the biggest sound I've ever heard this theme played.

Nice bit of corporate synergy. Jonny Quest was the first primetime series to have aired on all Big 3 broadcast networks. So technically, ABC got to plug one of their 60's classics...❤

It's really nice to see/hear a legit G bugle line these days. It's too darn rare. The Bari soloist in SOS on that K70 was very nice. And the Contras were solid!

For those youngins who have never seen or heard of this corps, go back and you tube any performances you can find of them in the late 70s and through 80s and maybe a little beyond. Not a good corps, but a great corps. Very classy look as well.

Most are formers horn from the The Freelancer D&B stockpile, from the 90s or private purchases via eBay and similar sites. BAC (www.coolisbac.com) is now contracted to make new, three valve G bugles for The Commandant's Own Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and should start selling them to the public.

Thank you for sharing this video for many of us who couldn't be there for his memorial. Big shout out to the Mandarins for opening their corps hall to host this event. I like how John Zimny threw in the casual mention that the Freelancer Alumni Drum and Bugle Corp were the reigning DCA Champions, mini-corps division AND the recruiting message for anyone who wants to play with the alumni corps. Don was a force of nature who left an indelible mark on so many us (even for the non-drummers). There was a story out there that the corps was at a host facility on tour that prohibited smoking in their building (circa 1980s). Well, as many know, Don was known to have a cigarette in the left hand as he finished the one in his right during rehearsals. As the host came by to see the rehearsal, Don curled his fingers around the lit cigarette and smothered it in the palm of his hands. What a badass!
