Nice result, thanks for sharing. Two questions - what paint did you use and does it stand up to soldering as a solder mask?

Fast search: Is titanium dioxide legal? It is associated with health risks such as DNA damage and immune system toxicity. The European Union banned the use of titanium dioxide in foods due to these safety concerns, yet the additive remains legal in the US.

Hi, what software do you use to make the PCB and for the laser machine? I was trying to convert my drawings from EasyEDA to LaserGRBL and it seems that they removed the option to export SVG, and I still haven't been able to solve it. Regards.

You could try MS print to pdf. Then convert the pdf to vector.

Just tried this with my xTool 10 watt - it works great but apparently I got matte finish tile with a somewhat rough unsealed surface. It basically melts the TiO2 in place and bonds it to the tile but then there’s a rough surface. Hoping to seal the outside under a clear finish - these would make wonderful holiday gifts

For single or double sided pcb designs this is great. I would love to able to do a 4 layer with this same technique but I think that would require some more effort 😅 still

I have used laser for some boards, but Im missing that last little detail, how to remove the thin resedue layer before the etch. What did you use? Oven cleaner? I have tried oven cleaner, IP, soap and a few other things. Owen cleaner seems best so far but its easy to go to far with it and then swipe off small detsils...

Is it really necessary to etch the board with the chemical solution if you already use the laser to carve out the unnecessary copper? im looking for a way to build prototype pcb at home but I want to avoid dealing with chemicals or spending too much money. otherwise ill just order pcbs from manufacturer. thank you :)
@aegisinstitute912Ай бұрын
Laser doesn't remove all the copper as there is dust and shards, which can lead to short circuits. Etching is best.
@MattOckendon2 күн бұрын
Some have shown good results removing the copper itself with fibre lasers but that is a much more expensive proposition.

not burning, a chemical change with the presence of ti02

I used Muriatic acid and 3% hydrogen peroxide. There are recipes online for the ratio's.
@jeffmastinАй бұрын
If i understand correctly the laser is just removing paint and the acid removes the unprotected copper?

I recently made a whole series of boards for a prototype automated dust extraction system in my woodshop. I used laserjet-printed overlays and ran them through a hot lamination press for laminating paper products. It worked well. I now have a Falcon2, and my next project will use that new toy. My question is, why not drill the holes with the laser? Does it create too much heat for the board? Lowell
@lasersandsaws2 ай бұрын
I haven't tried because I don't think the laser can cut thru the backing but maybe I'm wrong. Would be great if it could though.
@JavierChiappa5 күн бұрын
@@lasersandsaws Maybe you can just do a small dent to center the drill and that would be enough. You are using a 10W laser, based on your experience, how low can you go and still obtain result? 5W? 3W? Thanks for the awesome videos!
@lasersandsaws4 күн бұрын
@@JavierChiappa Thanks for the drilling tip. I have never tried anything below 10w but I only used 35% power so a 5w might work.
@themacdoktor3 күн бұрын
@@JavierChiappa Lowering the laser module's maximum power reduces the spot size so you can have finer detail. It's slower, of course but you can get much finer detail.

Your cardboard holder is great! You could even use it for double sided board if you mirror the bottom side accordingly.

We think alike my friend. I did exactly that and it worked. The jig has to fit perfectly though or the drill holes won't match.

Hi can you please share the details of power % applied, as mentioned 10W laser. And the speed applied. Because when i tried with my Atomstack x20, 20W optical power, i didn't succeed with this process. Either pcb's copper plate is bulging with over exposed or the paint is not cleanly burning as you showed due to under exposed. With several tries i didn't find a satisfying result.
@lasersandsaws2 ай бұрын
I used a 10w laser. The speed was 7000 mm/m. The power was 40%. You should do a test on a sacrificial board to get your speed and power correct. If you use to much power the copper will lift from the board. Also I found running a second pass at a lower power will help clean up the paint that was left behind.
