What would your strategy be to get into a good angle of control if you hooked a large fish with your rod pointed towards the fly? How would you establish a good bend in the rod?
@DiscoverTenkara6 ай бұрын
Great question. A good solution to that lies in preparation/prevention rather than cure. So, when controlling drifts, it's a good idea to keep the discipline of never allowing a drift to continue to the stage where you are pointing the rod straight at the fly. That way, there will always be sufficient angle between rod and fly when you set the hook to immediately establish a good bend. This also matches well with the general tenkara idea of having multiple shorter drifts being more effective than trying to do one, massive, "catch all" drift to cover a feature. Hope this helps. Paul

Thank you so much, I think that there is only one similar area in Japan which opened recently under the influence of Sebata Yuzo. It is on the Koraigawa, Nikko city (which is fitting since Sebata-san calls his Tenkara “Nikko style” Tenkara). Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

Quite a wonderful video - delighted the KZbin algorithm offered it in my feed today! I’m a Tenkara angler based in the USA. It would be great if we could have even a few such tenkara-only fisheries here. I would avidly support their creation, but conventional fly anglers (especially their tackle industry) would likely go all out to prevent any such innovation of this type on public waters.
@DiscoverTenkara7 ай бұрын
Thank you Michael for taking time to leave such kind feedback. While I am deeply into a wide range of fishing styles, I do think there’s an argument to say there probably isn’t a shortage of “conventional” fly fisheries. By that same thinking, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to say that having zero water dedicated to Tenkara probably counts as “something that’s lacking from the menu”. Paul

Paul, if it’s possible for guests to fish that stream, it just made my list of places I have to visit
@DiscoverTenkara7 ай бұрын
Hi! When time and resources allow there are group events, or (much more commonly) arranged guided trips for between one and three anglers at a time. Plus existing members can take a guest on a taster day for people interested in joining the waiting list. The access to fishing in England is a pretty strange system when viewed by anglers from almost any other nation! I think it stems from the long history of sporting rights that would go with “the nobility” and the associated titles, land and other rights. Paul

deep fry the little boogers, thats a smart idea. when i learned to kill things as a kid it fuelled me to be llarger, stronger, faster than yer average 🇬🇧of that time. much of my muscle and fitnes came from catching fish but away from the coast that meant trout. sadly on coming to 🇺🇸 ive found american trout are a little wanting in flavour- i little too much of the mud taste. a little light coating of various flours n the a good ol' shallow deep fry might do wonders for the same of trout. of course all the 🇬🇧 trout i caught were all born in the cool, fresh water i illegally oicked them out of- blame my grandad, he gave me his handline when he could no longer run from the water bailif.

Simple and affordable is great but that can be an opinion thing. In the states guys are spending 100, 200, 300 dollars on tenkara rods. That shit is crazy to me. I am hesitating to buy the 70 dollar one that I want and instead using a 10 dollar rod that doesn't look as cool lol.

Vito is great. He is also the only angler to actually say what fish he likes to catch. A common theme is that all the anglers interviewed love the act of catching fish especially via Tenkara.
