I've known republicans that read "The Jungle Book" every year. I believe this is because if conforms to their "cast" sense of society. I read Fredric Douglas's biography yearly, as motivation to work toward improving the future.

Being black in this country is getting very dangerous. The cops have declared a state of emergency to keep killing as many innocent black people as they fear for their lives and using key words like stop reaching and obey my every words you as a black person have no legal rights to life backed by the US Government

Good lesson. However, clarity is vital: it is not "Cuba" that erases African presence. It was PRE- revolutionary Cuba that attempted to erase, co-opt and dilute Africanity. Since 1959, the government of Fidel Castro and its current iteration is deliberately Afro Cuban. Cuba is NOT our enemy

How/why arn't Fredric Douglas biographies assigned reading for schools? His story is what every American wishes their story in life was. From sleeping on the ground with a burlap sack to a craftsman (still a slave) to a freed abolitionist whose speeches inspire national change.
