Primitive chants. Primitive dances. primitive drums. Primitive outfits. However, I am pleased to note that they are doing this by the light of the white man's invention of electricity and electric lights. And I'm not sure but it looks like the roof is a manufactured corrugated metal product of non-Indian making as well as the roof support pipes. I won't even mention the non-Indian PA speakers. But hey - this is America and everyone has the right to believe whatever nonsense the wish.

@@keishaabraham837 There are activities that stretch man's abilities and reach for a better present and future. To spend that much energy on reliving the past - especially when the past celebrates a time of failure as a culture - seems pointless. We are in need of solutions to present and future problems. All humans, including Indians, can contribute to those solutions. But not if they're trying to relive their primitive past instead. That's just lazy. And when they emphasize war with the white man - that's divisive.

Could you answer something for me? My aunt took me to a powwow when I was a kid and her and another adult scolded and berated me for taking pictures of the dancers. My aunt said that it was disrespectful to photograph Native Americans and made me feel really awful about it. As I've gotten older I've seen tons of photos and videos like this of Natives preforming at powwows but I've never gone to another powwow because of the intense shame and embarrassment my aunt caused me as a child. I'm a photographer and I love Native American culture, I would really love to go to another powwow someday but I want to be clear on what the rules are, is it ok to photograph Natives at these events or is it offensive?
@keishaabraham837 Жыл бұрын
Oh wow, are you indigenous? I am not sure where your aunt had heard that rule. But yes, there are a bunch of photographers that come out to take pictures and videos. There is only one rule, you cannot take pics or videos while they’re doing whistle songs, and there will be someone there too let you know that you cannot do so. But they won’t scold or berate you for it.

@@keishaabraham837 No, we are white. I've never seen whistle singing but thank you for the heads up. The other adult who scolded me was a man who appeared to be Native but I'm not sure if he was. I think he may have been a friend of my aunts. Thank you for responding, I really appreciate it! I have always felt that they were wrong for that but never had anyone to ask.

I have in one since of the word kinship with the American native people through possibly a great grandmother on my mother's side and a great great grandmother. My great grandmother was a full blood Cherokee.
