Putting something that floats like an empty water bottle or ball, can agitate the water and help ice from forming too

I just got done watching the first part... The hole. And now this one. So brilliant!! Thanks for sharing & helping us keep the old ways alive. Subscribed! And now at the end you mentioned using chicken wire or something to make a tube. You could do that, put foam insulation around it. Wrap that with another lay of chicken wire to hold it together, then stick it down the hole. Just a thought 🤔

I enjoyed this video gold hunt. I'm from Michigan originally. My wife and I now live in Arizona. But my heart is and always will be in Michigan. What part of Michigan do you live in? Is it in the UP west or east? Or the lower north or south. We had a small farm in Lenawee count north of the Ohio line. Best wishes and good hunting. GO BLUE !!

how do you find small creeks like this?
@jwmic2 ай бұрын
What area in the UP are you at? I have 40 acres I just bought In mass city. I would like to get myself and the kids into panning , but I'm not sure if my region has gold or more copper? I have found some copper metal detecting the creeks on my property but no gold.

Wonderful presentation! Reminds me of me in the 1960s hunting, trapping, turtling, ricing, making money having fun. Now I have mining claims on Gold Rush and take my Army Aviation Veteran retired buddies out to Colorado and get some gold! It's giving back that counts!

I can't seem to figure out the sluice rule. Am I allowed to use a sluice that is not powered as long as it fits the dimensions given?
@enjoyingnorthwoods40412 ай бұрын
You have to get a permit and only July and august Very hard to figure out the laws best bet is to call mining department Yes no power sluice of any kind

Thank you for sharing. After watching your video, I just thought of what if we drop a little solar fan down the hole, if that would help circulate some of that warmth up towards the water…?
@rattlecat59683 ай бұрын
Wow. Gotta give you respect. An extension cord and some power would have been so much easier, but, you choose to rely on a much more reliable method- a tried and true method and some good 'ol elbow grease! 🙌 It's the last week of July and here in northern NYS, and our winters aren't as brutal as in yours are come January/February. Bought some chicks last week - first time raising hens - and looking for the safest ways to keep them happy, healthy and safe their first winter. My biggest issue, it seems, will be finding someone to hire to dig out a frostline plus deep hole (4') for me! 🤣 Anyway, I found your video very useful and appreciate the dedication you had in following up with details on the temp tests and your results. Also, unlike many other KZbinrs, *you actually answered the questions your viewers asked!* Great job, all around, so thank you, keep cool the rest of this summer and hope to see more of your videos! *SUBSCRIBING!*

Nice video, they call me the 70 year old prospector. I've been chasing flour gold an nuggets for many many years lol. I never tell another fella how to prospect, just give suggestions now an again. When checking new areas y'all need 2 things other than u'r pan (which I prefer blue or black gold sticks out more) that is 5 gal bucket with classifiers an sturdy shovel. Most folks don't dig down deep enough into the cobbles an gravels enough. I'll dig up to 2' down, remember gold will sink sink sink all the way to clays or bedrock. Turn over some of those big ol river rocks dig down foot or two. Once again nice video an folks just remember couple things don't dig into banks fill any holes an don't leave trash. Forest service is always looking for ways to shut down our beloved recreational prospecting fun.

It's hard to find a michigan river that large that is legal to prospect in. They are either designated trout water or they have fresh water mussels .

Mid Michigan here. I cannot travel to pan, Are lower Michigan creeks ok?
@enjoyingnorthwoods40415 ай бұрын
Actually lower feeder creeks is were I do the best. Hard to find places up north that’s not a trout stream which are closed to panning. I have not found one in the lower lower that hasn’t had gold. Not every spot but in every creek I looked. Some better than others. If you look up the gold history down state you will be surprised where they found it. There’s a little bit about every where. Not enough to put money in your pocket but a great way to enjoy your day. Hope this helps. Have fun✌🏻
@jeffoman545 ай бұрын
where did You find a stream in Michigan, thats not a trout stream?
@enjoyingnorthwoods40415 ай бұрын
That’s the hard part. Lower lower is your best bet. Lot of state land with lots of feeder creeks. The feeder creeks is where I play. If you look up old gold records they have lots of gold down state. But there is lots of places to go. Upstate you got your work cut out for ya. Hope this helps. Look up state land down state. Few trout streams but almost all feeder creeks are open.

I think I’d put a screen over the tube to keep my curious chooks from inspecting it when I’m cleaning the bowl in the warm weather. I put a piece of dark neoprene floating on my fish ‘pond’ to give them shade and it prevents ice, so maybe just a piece of that covering 2/3 of the bowl would work. Appreciate your demo! Thank you. New sub.

@enjoyingnorthwoods40418 ай бұрын
Ahhhh ok. That’s funny My kids are raised to appreciate the outcome of the effort they put in. If going through 2” of frost is two difficult to accomplish then I failed him as a father and the world. As far as his poor young healthy body. Not a problem, his 13 years of wrestling and 10 years of racing motocross definitely conditioned him. Appreciate the concern though. Thanks for the feedback ✌🏻

I would have secured a screen over the top of the tube/hole, just to make sure no birds/animals would fall down the hole. Yes I know the bowl will be there, but you do have to pull it out on occasion to clean it ect.
