1997 Rumble explanation. Austin was eliminated by Bret Hart but the refs were distracted by Taker and Vader fighting so he snuck back in and won by eliminating Hart. This led to a Fatal Four Way match at Final Four In Your House for the vacant WWE Championship. The title was vacant because HBK “lost his smile” aka didn’t want to drop the belt to Hart. Back to the Four Way between Taker, Vader, Hart, and Austin. Hart won only to lose the belt to Sycho Sid the next night thanks to Austin. This led to the infamous double turn match between Austin and Hart at Mania “The one with bloody Austin” and Taker beating Sid for the belt in the main event.
