We can not give you a straight answer because the Edition 4 changes are still being analyzed and must be approved by the CFA Institute. We can tell you that from edition 2 to edition 3, there were no drastic or structural changes, and someone studying with Edition 2 material would be ~80% ready to do the exam on Edition 3. As CFA Institute Prep Provider, Alma Mundus makes sure that candidates have a smooth transition between editions, including cases like those of people who have studied with the previous edition materials. This transition is made through constant communication with candidates, webinars, Edition changes summaries, and study materials updates (Question Banks, Mock Exams, etc.). The three certifications are great ways to better understand ESG: The CFA ESG Certificate is an overview of the ESG factors and will help you understand how you analyze and integrate those factors into investment decision-making. In summary, it is focused on Investment Strategies. The SCR certification focuses on climate risk. So it is more specific. In summary, it is focused on Risk management. The FSA Credential helps you identify, quantify, communicate, and analyze the sustainability factors that impact a company's value. If you have an Environmental background, you may want to look for companies in that field. Some investment teams will look to environment expertise. Research and consulting are other areas you may want to check. Your strength will always be your environmental background, but if you have some of this certification, it will be a plus and a good preparation for your interviews. Your expertise will be environment-related, so maybe a more generalist certification will help you (CFA ESG or FSA). While both qualifications focus on sustainable investing, there are some slight differences in focus about them: Certificate in ESG Investing has a slightly broader focus on ESG factors and how the investment industry can adapt to that change in investor preferences. It also covers key concepts relating to climate change (including climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience) and a range of climate change initiatives. It features a more extensive study of the opportunities arising from the circular economy, green products, and clean and technological innovation. On the other hand, the Sustainability & Climate Risk (SCR) certificate mainly focuses on educating risk professionals on how to manage the leading environmental risk (arguably just the “E” part of ESG), i.e., climate change. While both are good quality qualifications from reputable organizations, the choice depends on which certificate has more relevance to your preferred career path: investments or risk management.
