I hope this becomes the next "Persona" series. It definitely has the ability to do so.

All I can say is that Metaphor Refantazio is right now a game that embodies everything that got me into JRPGS. The bonds of people are the real power. It’s all about the most discriminated boy becoming a man that will eventually unite the world not through power alone, but through the people he supports.

I was only able to play like half an hour last night because it took a long time to download and I didn't even really do any gameplay and... yeah, totally sold as if I wasn't already. I don't think I've been so excited for a game since Horizon Forbidden West, and I'm not a SMT fan at all and not a massive Persona fan either... this one just seems so, so special

Jealous of those who are excited.. I like Persona but played this demo and was bored. Did not like the animation of the battles and not a fan of the archetypes as of now... Idk why but something did not click for me.

Played 20 mins, confirmed ran good on my machine. Uninstalled, very hyped.

Finished the demo today, and the following are my impressions. Spoilers, obviously. - Has autosave, which will probably save my ass at some point - Unlike most Atlus games, has audio setting to balance BGM, voice, etc. - Played on a PS4 Pro, graphics and performance were good, no long load times - They added item sorting (seems like in every Atlus game I find myself in mid battle scrolling though a hundred randomly named things to find that one item that cures dizzy or whatever, now they’re type sorted under tabs) - OTOH, I found equipment menus a bit hard to read. Everything owned is shown, whether it’s equipped by another party member or not, with no indicator that it’s equipped until you select it. Also, it doesn’t tell you how much a weapon or armor piece improves your armor rating, just has an up arrow. - Added a front row, back row combat mechanic (like in classic rpgs) that’s actually pretty fun - Combat swings and animations feel a little sluggish, but you can press a button to make them instant (like in SMTV) - There is actual crimson blood, graphic throat slitting, etc. Cool. - Pacing felt “off” somehow, hard to explain, it just didn’t flow into a narrative that felt like it had momentum - There is very little of that Atlus fun, humor, or creativity until near the 5hr mark, when some weird shit goes down, other than that, feels like boilerplate fantasy rpg - I wasn’t feeling the music. Battle music was cool, but the transformation scenes, which were overall weak imo, and the new blue room piano music were insipid. - Main thing I’m noticing, having recently played through P3-5 and SMTV is that this game didn’t make me “feel” anything. No laughs, no tears, no excitement. Only moving scene for me was when Gallica stridently swears her loyalty. - Speaking of Gallica, is it just me or she the least attractive fairy ever? I mean, this company puts cute fairies in every game, Pixie, Hua Po, Titania, it’s like their trademark. Gallica is stand up gal and a less annoying navigator than any of the previous ones imo, but as plain Jane as a fairy can be. Aren’t there laws against that in Japan? - The game features themes of discrimination, racism, hierarchy, etc. and a number of what seem to be trans characters. If that kind of thing offends you, might wanna skip this one. - The new blue room feels uninspired. Every one before now had atmosphere and interesting attendants. This one feels empty, with some trans guy who apparently writes utopian novels. Not only that, but I found the whole archetypes progression system FAR less interesting than demon negotiation and collecting. Of course, all these are just first impressions. Overall, I think this will be a fun fantasy rpg with some Atlus gameplay mechanics (nearly all the same mechanics, most even mapped to the same buttons as before) but it won’t rise to the level of a Persona or Shin Megami Tensei title. The music, the lack of humor, the difficulty with varying the mood of the scenes (it’s all one serious note) gives the impression that the devs were out of their element here. After playing the demo I’m frankly not sure if I’ll get it on release or wait for a sale, but I’ll definitely play it someday.

Was intrigued when announced, was interested when further information developed, decided on purchasing it because it does look good, now I became stupid hyped and fangirling to some of my buddies about this game due to the demo. Game is lit and definitely one that my lady will hate because it's gonna take my attention away.

I don't know much about the game but I have played most games by Atlus, is Metaphor going to be a linear game like the first few hours suggest or do we know if it opens up? I'm not saying "Open world" but, you know... like Final Fantasy 7, overworld map, free exploration etc?

The graphics… specifically the environments and some enemies are pretty poor…

I have a video suggestion :) You should do a video where you talk about your top anticipated but unannounced games. Obviously we can't see the future but it would be cool to hear what games you would be most excited about if announced (ex. Final Fantasy 9 Remake).

Metaphor looks amazing! I was actually watching Miss Bubbles play the demo on her most recent livestream, and it just makes me hope the game comes to Switch 2!

I actually really enjoyed the demo.

What destroys this when going 3rd person in 3d like the remakes. They made the character more wimpy appearing and girlified them. Made them more girlie. Also the animation sucks. They was more tough appearing on the snes games. The one thing they did was give them those nice woman parts that are about the best grabbing size. That much cleavage on snes on the U.S would have been censored away back then or the game couldn't have been E for everyone. Or even T for teen back then. While today esrb gives the original games an E for everyone there was no esrb on boxes then or st least that box. Also the game appealed more to teens and older people over younger children not yet teenagers. This is why most heros in games made by Japan are teenagers. Because it appeals to teenagers that a teenager can be the hero. So this is why most rpg games have teenage heros and are focused on teenage characters. The same with anime. Still upset they turned them into the girly boy old ladies like rather than the tough guy like in original snes games. For example zelda in n64 and older games looks less girlie boy then today in zelda games he is sissified and a girly boy. So not much of the hero anymore. A girlie boy doesn't come off as a hero they appear weak and often are. Not just physically but in the mind. Even a woman is stronger. In real life they will shy away or not act and be tough when needed. More manly people will walk right over them and have power over them. The way attacks spells and everything appears weaker than in the snes days where you had a sense of power. Missing the atmosphere. Missing the effects and sound to make it sound epic and like your attacks really dished out power. So i was a teenager in the days of the snes from 93 on. At least in final fantasy vii remake you don't have that girlie boy to you like how they destroyed all the later games. And why they are not as popular as they could be. The people making the games messed up. To similar to the horrible animation style in kingdom hearts also. I can't like it for that reason. Kingdom hearts is Disney and the only game where the edge of a sword is a foot think and more likely to be no better than a baseball bat in real world. The graphics are bad for every console this is on. Visually not great and animations and sounds effects just aren't there. Done bad including walking animations. Most other games on each platform looks better and bas better animations. Removed the appeal for us guys. Appeals more to females then guys. I may play it but i cringe at the animation and atmosphere and graphics. The spells and attacks are not as snappy quit and powerful appearing in animation. Gives me no sense of powerful or strong. Proper sound effects timed correctly with the animation gives a sense of power and strength of the attack. Chrono trigger snes. You just appeared powerful. Secret of Mana and the sequel you did too. Then they made bad changes. I will really have to wait for a fan game before i can play a new awesome game with the right feel based on the original snes games.

wHERE its Tales of Shymphinia

I dont know why but Eiyuden Chronicle felt like a cozy jrpg to me. I know it was all about war and everything but it didn't seem like the stakes were that high and the fortress gave more of a cozy feel, especially the hot spring.

Legend of Dragoon is one of my all-time favorite jrpgs. It's basically power rangers mixed with dragons, what's not to love?

Reynatis seems intriguing I enjoyed my time with the demo a lot even played it 4 times. My only major complaint I have was that the white subtitles were quite often close to impossible for me to read😤 trying to read subtitles was quite difficult in certain areas of the demo because the tiny white subtitles really seemed to blend into the background…. I would really appreciate having the option in these types of games to be able to adjust the size and or color of the subtitles. Granted I would not have any issues if I was fluent in Japanese 😂 Will probably be picking the game up however I’m not sure if it will be a day one pick up🤔 I want to see if the game will actually be completely finished at launch ? Or if their will be required patches and downloads like so many games in this more modern era have. Edit I also would have liked the demo to be at least a bit longer, the new girl you were introduced to right at the end of the demo was by far my absolute favorite character in the game❤ sadly I had trouble even remotely likening ether of the 2 main characters 😩 and that really took a lot of my enjoyment out of playing. And I hope in the full game you have the ability to change the button mapping as I did have a bit of trouble with the current mapping . However maybe that’s just me🤔

Reynatis has been on my radar since its Japanese reveal, that obscure PS2 era action game energy is my jam, reminds me of stuff like the Sword of Etheria Looking forward to this one, the aesthetic is top tier Such a good art direction for the city, could've looked stunning with a higher budget, but the gameplay looks solid

I really wanted to like this one but I just found the suppressed/liberation stuff too annoying and disruptive for my taste. I wish you could also regain MP through basic attacks instead of only being forced to dodge.

Gonna be honest, I watched through the first three, then clicked around the timeline and downvoted this video. I'm not trying to be mean, but giving very frank advice here: You show zero genuine battle gameplay for just about all of these entries. I was actually confused after you ran through the first entry and all I saw was anime cutscenes -- "did I read that title right? Is this a list for anime?" Then I scanned through Visions of Mana, which I have played and clearly, you didn't show anything worthy of the battle system in that game. How are you advertising for this subgenre, where fans are absolutely clearly wanting to know what the visual speed/feel of the action is, on a visual medium such as KZbin, and fail to show genuine gameplay? I can't listen to or trust your words on any of these titles if you show me no gameplay for an action RPGs. It makes you seem like the type that perhaps doesn't actually know what matters. Show some of the style of major characters revealed/known in trailers because it matters too but equally, if not more, important is how the battles play out. I'm down to play an action (J)RPG that has less compelling or stylistically interesting characters to me if I really like the combat, not the other way around.

I'm playing Visions of Mana right now, and it's just pure joy. Sure, some of it is nostalgia. It feels like the perfect reimagining of Secret of Mana for the modern era. The action combat is not the best I've played. Ys and Granblue Fantasy Relink have it beat for sure. But it's solid and fun to play.
