I'd say for on sight you're using the wrong type of distortion but the general sound is there for sure, you getting more lower mids come through, s&h & linfold distortions would help with those high mids, but I'm pretty sure this was made from hardware synths so it's hard to tell exactly what parameters they used

Great Vid! Things I like to add to mine. Use the 2nd Sin Wave (has more Harmonics/Tone to it). Chorus: Adjust Cutoff & Spread so the Effect mainly affects the Mids and Highs (as Desired) In general I've been playing with Lowering the Mix Knob on Filters; so a small amount of Highs come out (Add LFO or Envelope if desired). Also, I been treating the OTT compressor like an Effect, Automating the Mix Knob to Taste. Treating it like Parallel Effect rather than a static Compressor

Doing any widening on bass sounds especially below 150 or so isn't a great idea. The mix or mastering engineer is going to have to undo that.
@AntonProducer16 күн бұрын
Some electronic producers like to have the subs with unison so that instead of being a consistent level, it phases and creates a beating effect... But 99% of the time you’re right which is why for the intermediate bass we have the option to keep the sub in mono 👍🏾

Hey Anton, do you have any tips on getting better at making synths ? Also, would you be willing to recreate any of the synths from The Weeknd's After Hours or My Dear Melancholy album ?
@AntonProducer19 күн бұрын
Pick 1 synth and try to master it. I find it easier to learn on hardware synths because it’s hands on and encourages you to learn what each knob does and how it affects a patch. If you’re on a budget you can use software, id recommend starting with vital and try to make at least 1 sound for each beat you make.
@AntonProducer19 күн бұрын
Experiment with different effect processing. It can help a synth sound come to life
@AntonProducer19 күн бұрын
And yeah those are some good suggestions. I’ll add to the list for a future video

@dannymelody24 күн бұрын
Great quality content. Btw I see you have hardware synth. what’s your favorite hardware synth to make dark basses like this?
@AntonProducer24 күн бұрын
Probs Moog grandmother or sub37. Moog synths are generally my favourite for basses except for a few types of basses where you need high resonance I like the sound of the ms20 and a couple others..
@dannymelody23 күн бұрын
nice ! I’ll look into them. Thanks Anton. If I can recall correctly, many moogs don’t have the detune and unison feature like vital but I’m guessing using plugins with these hardware synths will do the trick ?
@AntonProducer23 күн бұрын
@ Yeah that’s right, I usually add a chorus
@AntonProducer23 күн бұрын
@@dannymelody But I should also mention, for these types of basses you don’t really need a hardware synth as synths like vital or serum with give you more flexibility… 1. They have unison like you said. 2. We can do the trick where we use a 3rd Osc for the sub. I’ll make a separate video on Reese basses using both hardware and software to show the differences and pros/cons
@dannymelody23 күн бұрын
@@AntonProducer that makes sense. I’ll just stick with vital since it’s more flexible like you said. Look forward to the video! Great topic to cover

Self taught bro. I learnt by remaking my favourite sounds and a bunch of ear training.. Checkout my video "synth basics everyone should know". It's good if you're just starting out with synthesis and want to know what most synth patches have in common

Edit: I was able to get a Wave Folding Sound in Vital. FX Channel 1: Filter-Mode: Dirty. Filt All the Way Up (to Allow all the Highs). Drive Knob: LFO 1. FX Channel 2: Distortion-Mode: Linear or Sine Fold. Drive Knob: LFO 1. Learned a couple of months ago you can get Harsher/Imperfect Distortions in Vital Using the Drives from the 3 Filters before using Distortion. Then add Compression to boost that sound
