The waste gate holds the boost not the dump valve 🤔

waste gate holds exhaust to the turbine wheel, dump valve holds air to the engine itself, in this system the dump valve is the weak point so its being adjusted, both hold boost but in different ways

Bpv also "holds" boost. The factory ones have apparently been known to start opening around 17-18psi. This according to the forums fixings that issues

Did you Loctite that screw in? If you didn't you are risking the engine.

Don't need to... if it starts to come loose the intercooler is in the way, that's why you need something that doesn't stick up

The foam filter is used instead of the paper filter not on top.

If I had the correct foam filter for it yes, but this Is just a generic one that would be to loose without the normal filter on. Even with the normal filter on having to ziptie it so it doesn't come off. Don't want to be constantly going through zip ties to change between the two so figured may as well just keep both on

Please help im trying to mate my buddy's tranns on his 02 wrx we pulled the trans but on reinstall we noticed the motor mounts are shit so the second we get the trans on the lower two studs the engine walks with the trans rather than offering resistance to walk to trans up the studs

Probably a good time to get those mounts replaced then while the box is out. Gives a lot more room to do it

@sebsshenanigans true but I'm doing this on 4 jack stands with no cherry picker I'd rather have the trans in to counter the engine weight when I jack it from the oil pan. I got the trans mated one of the studs was bent had to replace with a bolt

@@gentlemansbusa2985 don't need one, I just jacked mine up from the sump, made sure it didn't tilt and hit the radiator and the mounts wiggled out. All with the box off because I had more room to work around

Hey Seb. Awesome stuff. Just looking through videos of taking out the 5 speed. Can you give an itemised list on start to finish on what to do first to last. You mentioned you didn't get any fluid..lol.... Well that's something I'm getting before I start. Same as getting 4x car stands. Etc etc. Did you take the exhaust pipe out first to get the gearbox out ??. Thanks for the upload. Learned a few things about tension on some bolts. Anyway. Hope to hear from you in regards to start to finish list. Cheers Reggie.

Yeah I've got a video that was up before this one of getting the old box out. Don't remember the exact steps I did, just sort of undid things as I went if it looked like it was in the way. But intercooler off, downpipe off, drain box fluid, remove shafts. Then I think clutch slave cylinder off and can't remember if I took starter motor off. Went through the process of taking out the gearbox bolts to engine. Use a piece of cardboard and shove them through it in the sequence/layout they come off the box. Last one is the box mount, so get the jack underneath to support it before undoing it and then a fun task of jiggling it off (I think)
