How would you do this with Caran D'Ache watercolor pencil? Not all those colors are in the set of 76!
@katkolors786
@katkolors786 9 ай бұрын
Well with watercolour pencils you have the advantage of layering any shade to achieve a darker tone. From looking at the colour chart it's very similar to the Luminance, so I would think you could make a nice bright gold from: Primrose Yellow Gold Cadmium Yellow Raw Sienna Burnt Ochre Raw Umber And maybe a tiny bit of Mars Black if you needed to push the contrast.

This is the video I've been searching for! I find other colorists make skin too dark but this skin tone is perfect! What would you do for a vampire skin tone? I've tried creams with cloud blue and it looks ok but not quite what I'm after. Thanks for posting!
@katkolors786
@katkolors786 Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad it could be helpful! For vampires - or really pale skin - I completely stay away from any sorts of creams or browns. Instead I'd recommend using greys, either cold or French greys, for the shadows. Keep the blue! That's great for suggesting coldness to skin, and you can also use a violet/parma violet in the mid-tones to add extra depth. Hope that helps!

@@katkolors786 Thank you so much for the advice! The creams give a bit of a yellow/sallow tint but it wasn’t what I wanted. Your suggestions make more sense.

Thank you so much for this tutorial… tbh it was probably one of the best tutorials I’ve followed along with in over a year! I appreciated that you took your time, went slow, and explained WHAT you were doing as well as WHY you were doing it. I wish a lot of these other colourists on KZbin that post “tutorials” understood that without those key components, they are just posting a show-off video of themselves coloring, not really caring if we, the newer colourists, are actually learning anything or not. I truly believe that’s why so many get stuck only colouring along with KZbin videos and it makes me sad. The experienced colourists who present themselves on social media platforms such as this, really ought to take care that their “subscribers” are actually LEARNING your skills, so that one day we will not NEED to color along with everything. Just my opinion, sorry for the rant 😂 I will end on a positive note and say I can’t wait to learn from more of your videos!! Thanks again! ❤😂

Thank you so much for this tutorial on how to color red hair @KatKolors! I am looking forward to coloring red hair. I just got a full set of Faber-Castell Polychromos for Christmas and I am excited to use them. I was told that the more colored pencils used to color hair, the more realistic the hair will look. I hope that the hair on my coloring page turns out as good as yours looks.I really enjoyed watching your process. Can you tell me where you got your pencil sharpener from? Thank you again for this wonderful tutorial! Happy New Year to you!!! 😃
@katkolors786
@katkolors786 Жыл бұрын
Well I hope you enjoy using them! The Polychromos take some getting used to, but they are gorgeous pencils for layering. Definitely try to add as many believable tones as possible to hair, but it's a balance - too many colours can result in them becoming 'muddy'. Two highlights, three mid-tones, and two dark tones are always a good place to start. As for the sharpener that's the Faber-Castell Trio sharpener, which you can find on Amazon and most good art stores. It's perfect for Polys!

Very pretty coloring. Ifsrkers are used I don't have any. Can the pretty coloring be done with color pencils only? I have trouble when coloring because when I color I can't seem to get all the white paper covered if you understand what I'm saying. Do you just keep putting layer after layer of same color on top of each previous layer to get a more solid color? In other words how do you get your colors so solid without having any of the white paper to show through?
@katkolors786
@katkolors786 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I work almost exclusively in pencil. There's 2 ways to get solid colour. You can just keep layering until the paper tooth is filled - this is far easier on smoother paper. Or you can use a blender/burnisher to 'push' the colour into the paper. I really like the Caran d'Ache coloured pencil blender and use it a lot for getting an even layer of colour.

It's Canson 1557 cartridge paper. It's certainly quite toothy, so no good for oil pencils. But I find it works for layering wax really well; that's how I got so many colours in the skin. I do have to use a blender on some sections to take out the tooth, but so far it's taken everything I've thrown at it.
