Nope. Miss info from your greek college friend. Expats sons don't need to serve the Army. 1. Expats and their abroad born children can happily live in Greece, but they don't get nationality. 2. Expats and their Greek born children, children can get Nationality after 10 years and serving the Army. Parents must live fully in Greece also for 10 years. Fully legit that means work, taxation, assimilation, education of greek born children etc. That is the case of Giannis. 3. One parent been Greek, or both, children get Nationality by birth, and they serve the Army. All above if parents are foreigners or one of them. If both parents are greek born, then children are also greek. In general in Greece we follow the blood pattern, greek for greek, but also the location of birth also applies as mentioned in №2 If all family is born non greek then Nationality is a big NO. You can get recidence permit, work permit, social security №, even the right to vote on municipal elections, but for National election, you'll watch it from your TV 📺
