My one cat ( of the 3 ) hid for hours when i got back from a 7 day trip. It wasnt until i dat on the floor, deveststed and crying because u thought surely she got out when sitter came in . Next thing I know shes peaking her head out of a door way 😅, a room I had searched and searched!

One of my cats bullies the other. He doesn’t attack him thankfully, but will block the doorway so he can’t get by. My timid cat has his own space to get away, a cat bed in the closet, and has his own food and litter box. He comes out more when we are home, as he feels safer.

Man if I mention the word “fish” he gets all excited. No matter how quiet I try to make it.

I rarely scruff my cat, but I take her over to my aunt and uncle's house so she can play with their cat. She LOVES being there, and when she doesnt want to leave, she will hide under the bed in the guest room or under other furniture. I sometimes have to scruff her to pull her out because she will try to move out of reach to not leave. Once I get her out, I cuddle her while I take her to her carrier. She will sometimes get treats once in the carrier.

Yes this. My guy is elderly, on palliative care, and absolutely has to have pills twice a day. He is also very much against the entire concept of pills. I have tried EVERYTHING. The only way to do it on my own, which I have to, is to purrito him in a thick blanket, and the only way to make him lie down still while I wrap him, is to scruff him. Ten seconds of scruff, plus a minute in a purrito twice a day is stressfull and unpleasant for him. But you know what else would be stressful and unpleasant? Drowning in his own lung fluid. And he is a shy boy who needs the few humans he has bonded with, doesn't do well at the vets, or with transport etc. And he takes a couple days to bounce back from even light sedation. But the vet and I both agree that he still has a really good quality of life, and he and I can enjoy these last months together, however long we get. And I hope that, if I could explain it to him, he would agree a couple minutes of stress twice a day, is worth it to literally stay alive <3

I average about 10 foster cats a year and I specialize in medically needy kitties - I've always avoided scruffing, but wow! This could be a really great thing for me when a cat really doesn't want to take their meds. Thank you for educating me!!!
