So sorry you had to lose your school. My wife and I lost our Personal training studio in Oregon as well. Started in Moo duk kwan under GM Henry Murphy (while in USMC in Hawaii back in the 80s) and ended up training In Chung do kwan. Excellent video

wanted to stop by and say hello. Any plans on doing any martial arts in the near future? You have a good sized yard. Would enjoy seeing some training. By the way good job on the meditations on the porch series.

Thank you for the kind words once again. I am training on My Own surrounded by Nature, as you said, in the yard. I am still recovering from two hip replacements, and two back surgeries... No one knows me out here, as you know martial arts is all about reputation. We will see if I can start some kind of program, even if just a bully defense seminar / talk in a school out here. (Maybe help reverse some of the craziness being taught in many schools) I guess I have a better chance if I'm in Drag...hehe.

Hello. I know that the title says: "The School does not exist any longer..." , but what happened? Are you no longer training anywhere. Not even at home...? Greetings from Denmark, where there was no lockdowns, that caused any school to close.
@drummtracks Жыл бұрын
My wife and I moved out of Los Angeles. I was forced to close my business because of the lockdowns, my landlord did not cooperate with me, she still wanted me to pay rent while the school was prohibited to operate... I tried teaching at a public park and we were kicked out by the sheriffs, we had masks... and social distancing... and we were Outdoors!! that was the last straw, so we left. I still train pretty much every day out in my backyard, we will see what the future brings. I am glad you are doing well, Denmark followed the REAL science...

I called it "Hollywood Soo Bahk Do" for about a decade, attempting to promote the name and get more exposure... once I changed the name to "Hollywood Karate" my business just about doubled! Not many people knew what "Soo Bahk Do" was, but a very high percentage know what "Karate" means.

Sheeple are sad. Dems, in particular, want total obedience to their every word. A lot of people are so sad, cowardly. So, if it is not too intrusive, I am curious as to where you decided to settle. For sure, you need to be in a Red State. I have no clue how you lived in CA. so long. I was in CA in the late 80's for a week and I couldn't handle the small amount of exposure I had with those nut balls. Props to you man. A sane person in a crazy land. Like Indiana Jones walking through the mass of Nazi in the Last Crusade.

That's funny and sad at the same time. But thank you again for your Insight. My wife and I worked hard to create an atmosphere that attracted a certain type of like-minded people in our school, Which made it tolerable. (Of course, we had our share of "others") We moved to a very small town in Southern Virginia and absolutely love it!!! We can actually have real conversations with people here. Glad to hear that the gym owner was considerate to you. I hope you're able to continue your training and teaching

Thank you... I used my adaptive skills and every ounce of my martial arts training to tolerate living in that area. My students, the school, and the art, are what kept me going.

I'm a bit confused, the video is a commercial for the dojo, but the title states it is no longer open, why the video if the school is closed? I did like the clear distinction and policy about actual fighters in the dojo. Two things that do not mix well are fighters at a dojo. Fighters should be in gyms or training area's not dojos. Fighters are difficult to deal with and collect dues from, and they scare off martial arts students and their parents.
@drummtracks Жыл бұрын
Good points, my sentiments exactly. As far as the video still being up. I am conducting some Zoom private classes, and I hope to open something in the near future when all this crap with the "pandemic" boils over. I wanted a way for people to keep in touch with me. Thank you for your comments.

@@drummtracks sounds great. I should keep my view about that planedemic to myself. I thought all that scare crap ended already, you must be from a blue state. We had to lock our doors, but everyone knew the special knock to come in and help "clean" the dojo. I don't have many students, anyway, really couldn't pay the bills or keep it open if it were not for the gym owner. His kindness keeps the dojo going. Hope that you and your dojo get going again. My life is training, and it is just so much easier having an actual dojo to go to. I know about fighters, heck I was/am one of them. I know how difficult they can be. We avoid the "fighters" as well, even I don't want them hanging at the dojo, and I was a pro fighter. When I hung up my gloves and walked out of the cage I focused on more martial arts, martial arts and I think with a background in both worlds I have something a lot of the just martial artists or just fighters do not have.

Training and teaching was, and is, my life!... it was taken away from me, needless to say, my wife and I left California. We will see what the universe has in store for me. I had about 75 to 100 students, my heart is broken for every single one of them. @@drummtracks I'll check them out. I could never live in a Blue state like that, I am too independent, and bull headed about my views. Been in Indiana most of my life. A few years in FL after high school and several in NC during my Army days but other than that, lived in IN. NY and CA are the two states I have no care to even visit. Hope that you find yourself in a more hospitable location and maybe you can get your dojo up and running again. My dojo is more of a "hobby" dojo with very few students. I have dedicated my life to my training and teaching but have never been able to break that barrier from "hobby" dojo to one that could sustain living expenses.

There is a story from the Zen Buddhism tradition about the disciple who thought he could improve his chances of enlightenment by seeking it on his own. So he bid farewell to his brothers in the monastery, took the ferry across the river, and went to live in a cave high in the hills all by himself. There he meditated nonstop for twenty-five years. At the end of that time, he emerged from the cave, stretched his arms above his head like a man waking from a long sleep, and made his way down to the river. Without even pausing to test the temperature first, he stepped out on the water and proceeded to walk across the water toward the monastery he had left a quarter of a century ago. Two monks who were doing their laundry that morning saw him coming across the river. "Who is that?" one of them asked. The other replied, "That is the old man who has spent twenty-five years meditating in a cave. Now, look at him! He can walk on water "What a pity," the first monk said. "The ferry only costs a quarter!"
