Excellent presentation. Couple of comments: Load Cells don't actually wear out if used within their designed limits. Fatigue Rated load cells are built beefier to be better able to handle overloads and shock loads. To amplify on potential installation problems. If you are using load cells to turn a hopper or tank into a scale, then any live to dead connections (wiring, material entry/exit points) must be designed to avoid lifting or pulling on the tank or hopper. Ideally connections material entry/exit includes an air gap (to prevent binding) and wiring and plumbing should be routed horizontally and securely mounted at two points. The point the cable/wiring enters the tank or hopper and an adjacent point in the surrounding equipment. You don't want the length of the suspended wiring to change.

Can you clarify what do you mean to "not use the pedestal mount torque sensor as a bearing block"? In the documentation for the T5 pedestal mount sensor, it describes using the sensor as "The housing of the transducer is designed as a bearing block." in section 5.4 (Foot Version Assembly) of the sensor operation manual.

Hi There, and good question. Sorry for the delayed reply. The idea is to not support much if any load with the torque sensor bearings. Although the sensor can function as a bearing block, the torque sensor makes a very expensive one and you don't want to risk wearing out those bearings. In addition to bearing wear, radial loads to the sensor shaft will also cause errors and possibly damage to the sensing section. The allowable loads are published and you will likely find them to be considerably less than what would be allowed in an actual bearing block or jack shaft. In practice, bearings loads are avoided by using proper double-flex disk type couplings at each shaft-end of a pedestal mount sensor.

The axial offset of this contactless torque transducer is an excellent solution to minimize the risk of damage due to excessive radial displacement, a welcome evolution compared to the previous generation. I suggest that a new the video shows this feature in more details.
