Could of fastened the pvc pipe on using zip ties instead of those bolts.
@MarvinWestmaas Жыл бұрын
Zip ties aint going to hold that in place with all the water hitting it and force of the engine and the flexing of the tube. That being said I don't like those clamps even if he put rubber on the ends they will cause stress area's. I'm thinking of jamming a 2x4 between the transom and the lifting handles and put some ropes through it on 3 spots so I can tie it to the handle and the transom mounts. Hoping it will stay in place well enough to do the job.

@@MarvinWestmaas 4 x 7.5mm zip ties/cable ties certainly worked for me, been out 3 times now & no issues at all. (Super strong) Shame I couldn't show you how I did it using and doubling up 7.5mm zip ties instead of ugly clamps.
@MarvinWestmaas Жыл бұрын
@@markweatherall7437 I guess there are really beefy zip ties around... to bad I don't have them. I'm thinking of using a spare piece of pvc pipe I was using untill my tiller extension came, cut up in a say pretty flat strip and drill some holes in it so I can tie it together with some paracord. It's the only pvc pipe I have laying around and I can't use it as is because it's way to wide.

Hi, what benefit did you get by raising the motor mount plate higher?
@ChrisG99782 жыл бұрын
Don't allow any gas to spill on that PVC. Gas and most plastics don't mix well, and gas could burn right through the vinyl. Otherwise, impressive to see a 3.5HP gas motor on an inflatable raft...I have a 60 lb thrust trolling motor on mine but definitely cannot reach those speeds on the water.
@MarvinWestmaas Жыл бұрын
Even the Excursion manual states it can deal with gas spills.

I bought an electric motor that was slower than this speed, but AMAZINGLY QUIET and peaceful. It took a while time to get places, but it was very relaxing. I'm still working on similar modifications. Thanks for the videos.

I was using an electric motor for the longest time. I bought a bigger soft inflatable boat with a transom. I finally acquired an outboard motor. While not the most quietest, it beats carrying around batteries and going at planning speeds. I think that electric motors are suitable for smaller and calm bodies of water such as small lakes. But for me, these weren't the most abundant types of water places near me.

One of the motor mount mods I'm going to try is to u bolt a 1" 2 1/2 ft long pvc pipe to the back of the motor mount near the bottom of the mount ..... A second mod is running 1' pvc pipe under the emt pipes of the motor mount in 4 different places(see pic ) I'm running 2 pvc pipes along the length of the boat to support a storage platform at the front of the boat and also to use to build a canopy / bimini ... So I'll just add a 5 ft pvc pipe in the back of the boat to support the emt pipes ibb.co/kVi78w

Hi. Was that at full speed? Were you able to measure it? I am balancing between 62lbs trolling motor or a 2.5- 3HP outborder. Costs are about the same for both setups taking in mind the heavy life cycle battery for the trolling motor.

Still breaking in the new motor so it was at 75% throttle, phone app GPS said 4 mph avg
@excursion56426 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks. Keep us updated when you have done 100% regarding speed and experience with motor mount.
@irainvestor47866 жыл бұрын
I will.. The motor was still dipping, to almost having the propeller dipping at an angle downward when I went just slightly past 75%.. I have another motor mount mod idea I'm going to try which should help the speed... I'm guessing If I get the motor dipping issue fix I should be able to average 6 mph at full throttle
@excursion56426 жыл бұрын
Hi. Please try this mod if you can. I have thought of that and tested it outside of water. I expect an improvement of 20-30%. Piece of wood around 1/2" thick and hard enough. ibb.co/f6Cs8w ibb.co/mkwxab ibb.co/fFmkTw ibb.co/cDfqvb Let me know

That's one of the mods I'm doing but using a 1" 2 1/2 foot long pvc pipe u bolted to the back of the motor mount, it weighs less then the wood
