Don’t believe it’s junk I weigh more then the unit can handle an it works fine every time I want to use it ! An I bought it second hand an it’s a little scuffed up. I highly recommend it! They are very affordable used! His unit could have been built on a Friday 😂 just like cars most are good but every once in awhile you get a bad one. Plus we all know Nordic trac specializes in these things a they know treadmills an have a good reputation in the industry. Just speaking common since

The non-parallelism of the clamp has minuscule effect on the honing angle. The honing angle is determined by the height to the rod hole in the clamp and distance from the back of the clamp to the edge of the knife. It's the geometry of the right triangle, tangent of honing angle equals opposite side divided by the adjacent side.

Had mine professionally installed with the delivery from amazon. Been using for about two months with no problems. Everything is running as expected. Perhaps you pinched wires when you put it together idk. Don’t trash it. Get someone to rebuild it for you. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be when you need to start exercising and you can’t !

There seems to be a variety of strong opinion on what is a correct angle, consistent angle and best clamping technique for securely gripping the blade and it seems that they're all (partially) correct. With respect to grip, if the blade doesn't rock in the clamp when sharpening, it's secure enough. About consistency, the thing that is most needed is for the central plane (about both major faces of the blade) is set such that the angle between that plane and the clamp brackets (the leg with the slots) is equal on both sides. If you check this, each time, the bevel you sharpen to will always be the same on both sides of the blade, irrespective of whether or not the clamp faces are parallel. A note on this: a blade with a full grind may necessitate a non-parallel clamp fit in order to get a secure grip, whereas, a blade with a sabre grind may best be held with a parallel clamping setup. Cross-sections vary considerably between blade design, so it stands that how you clamp them will. Always try to have the blade centred, that way, you'll get a reasonably matching bevel. Happy sharpening.

Ascend treadmills are remarkable worse and more dangerous than this one. Sucks that you have to deal with NordicTrack this way.

If your blade is tapered then keeping the clamp faces parallel means you aren't applying sufficient force to the blade (as is clearly visible in your video). I'd rather apply proper clamping force to the blade and adjust my angle by moving the blade back and forth in the clamp.

Dude if you clamp a full frat grind knife the way you are talking (parallel) the knife will wiggle side to side and make poor end results. You will end with one angle diferent than the other side. So clamping parallel only works if the knife has a flat surface on the blade where you can clamp it. full flats will need the angled clamping method. See u

Listen everyone, please do not buy any model of Nordictrack Threadmill. I guarantee you are going to regret. I had two of them. Now I’m stucked with the 2950 model. I had the technician come to my house 5 times and I still have problems. I replaced the motor, motor controller, rollers twice in two weeks, console. I spent close to 2,000 dollars and still don’t work. The machine didn’t have warranty because it was a display machine.

1:29 you see the angle, it changes only 2° When the highest point changes 2° and the lenght to the base point 0 is only ~ 5cm long and the 17° Angle height is about 2cm, it does minimalistic effect to the 17° angle of the knife. Sorry for my bad english, I'm from germany.

The SARB017 was not launched in 2015 but in 2006 and it was not the only one in the Alpinist line-up, there was also the SARB013 ( ivory/cream-colored dial) and the SARB015 (black dial with different hands and date at 4 hours).

The sharpened edge angle is determined by the angle of the sharpening stone to the blade, and that's decided by the height of the holes that the sharpening stone guide rod fits through. Keeping the clamps parallel will have little effect on the angle of the grind. It's more important that you clamp the blade securely, evenly. These aren't precise systems to get an absolute same angle along the whole length of the blade, and in any event, the absolute same angle along the whole length of the blade isn't needed to get a sharp functioning blade.
