I was proud of that one. I actually filmed the footage in game on the other side of the map using a drop tower. Obviously using PC2 now would have been easier but the challenge makes it interesting!

American Eagle is HUGE! I know its a classic but I feel like if they gave it the steel vengeance treatment they could make one of the best coasters in the world
@wheelgap
@wheelgap 14 күн бұрын
Eagle is huge! But, I like that we have a huge, traditional woody. There's not many of them left. I think eagle is the tallest and fastest wooden racing coaster in the world. It's also currently the 9th longest wooden coaster, the 8th fastest, and has the 9th biggest drop. I would like to see it stay as is and just get more and more trackwork. I also wouldn't mind the Gravity Group or GCI coming in and reprofiling parts of the track, like making the large helix more dynamic, or improving the return runs. But, I think the park has its large RMC already and an RMC Eagle wouldn't really make sense

Haven't seen anything on the tower, but they do have lights and a Christmas tree on the eagle helix by the interstate. Noticed it yesterday on the way to work. Nice touch. Great footage as always.

Why shouldn't you fly a drone around the park without permission? As long as it doesn't go over their property I don't see why not
@wheelgap

While there's nothing illegal about it, you can get restricted from media events or even banned from the park. As my channel grows, I'd like to go to media day and start working with the park more directly to get you guys even better content!

Me too. Especially some place like Cascade, which is right on the freeway from Illinois to the Dells. They could get a lot of business doing downhill mountain biking and having a mountain coaster. Granite Peak in Wausau had one in a revision of their master plan, but as far as I can tell that has been dropped for now

"You always want to walk facing the direction its coming". Oh Mt Olympus... your safety never ceases too amaze. Why is this even necessary with proper LOTO?
@wheelgap
@wheelgap Ай бұрын
LOTO is definitely the way to go. But, it's an extra layer of safety, like why you want to walk against traffic on a road. Better to see something coming than get run over even with LOTO. In this case, the cars were off the track, so we didn't even have to worry about that, but good practices and redundant safety measure keep everyone safer!

No, I think pitch black is the way to go. Maybe a bit of fog for the tunnels but the darkness highlights the experience immensely

Rode Hades recently and loved it. I will say it's got some insane vibration through the tunnel. Track looks smooth but riding it, you definitely feel it. If they retracked it, then maybe it's better.

As a recently retired airline mechanic, I did appreciate the discussion about maintenance on the train cars 19:23 . Especially the part about NDT, or non-destructive testing. I would imagine that finding cracks in critical structures on these cars that are not visible to the naked eye, would be a high priority. I would be a total geek and fan if there was a video series focusing on theme park ride maintenance. Walking the track daily is certainly part of that. Thanks for the look behind the scenes. And please do send some extra thanks to your host and tour guide for this video.
@wheelgap
@wheelgap Ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! I worked in maintenance for 3 years at another park, and I find it quite fascinating. While that park is more restrictive in terms of what I could show, it was an absolute blast being able to walk through this sort of stuff where I could film it. The park I worked at actually had an NDT machine on site, which was used throughout the year during train maintenance. With the high amounts of aluminum in roller coaster trains (and animatronics!), the amusement industry and aerospace industry really aren't that far apart. I'd love to make more videos like this, but getting this sort of access is really hard and takes a long time. I'm hoping a couple other local parks will be open to it, given how popular this video has been. I'd recommend checking out my Slidewheel video (part 1 of this mini series), because that goes even more in depth into what daily checks happen on that ride, along with the structural engineering and controls that are needed for safe operation!

you know I wonder why the never went with the PTC 360 trains from PTC
@wheelgap
@wheelgap Ай бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/hancp2qca7Oqmas PTC360 trains didn't come out until November 2015, where they were announced at that year's IAAPA. During the release, they actually showed footage of the PTC 360 testing on Hades! However, at that point the Timberliner they bought for the original conversion was only 2 years old so there was no need to replace it. The maintenance team really likes the Timberliner as well, so they probably wouldn't move away from it at this point. I asked the PTC guys at IAAPA last year if they had plans to sell a PTC 360 train anytime soon, and the chance was "maybe". Won't say the coaster, since they haven't announced it yet, but it's not Hades!
