3:30 In my mind 'popular' is a pejorative ;P I think this is a great concept; I've been photographing BNSF train cars for years, and always thought an oversized landscape dimension coffee table style book would be a great format. I later came up with the idea that you could associate each car with a QR code printed in the corner of the full-page image that would take people to a companion website where they could upload their own photo of the respective train-car. I would think the logistics of such a thing would lend better to indi-publishing given that you'd want to coordinate heavy distribution in the cities and towns that are along that particular train line.

Hey, I'd be interested in buying the book but i went through your etsy and i cannot see it. Do you have a link for it? Thank you :) super cool idea
@MyCreativeDisorder5 күн бұрын
Nah, project ended with this last one sold. But as I see such a large interest in my book I'm thinking of reprinting another batch :) What would be a fair price to you?
@SpadesDrawings5 күн бұрын
How can I get my hands on one, or maybe five? I live in NYC, we're HUGE into graffiti here. There is an art store by me that sells specifically to Graffiti artists. I also teach an art class and this would be good when I start teaching about street art. As your channel gets bigger, people will be looking for merch from you. This would be a great item to have for sale.
@MyCreativeDisorder5 күн бұрын
Thanks for nice comment :) my merch is already up in my etsy store - some shirts, original artwork and prints will be coming soon. Great to hear from the Big Apple :) I'm starting to think about a new batch of my sketchbook, maybe, make it a bit bigger but keeping portability in mind so you can take it with you a train drive. Thank you for your interest, I'll start working on the new book right away!

I wish I could live there, America is broken.
@MyCreativeDisorder5 күн бұрын
In what way? I thought America was the place where your dreams come true
@chriskopeikin2702Күн бұрын
@ because once you get here you realize it’s not free and dreams can come true anywhere. I promise you before you come here if you ever do just do extensive research because it use to be an amazing place in the 40’s- late 70’s but just watch the news to see how many people are homeless and moving into their cars. There is a term here called the working poor which means people have full time jobs sometimes two at $15-$20 an hour and still cannot afford to get an apartments. There are rules here like you have to make 3-5 times the rent to be accepted as well. If you have a high income and it is very secure and you are wealthy then it is a great place to live but just realize how many iconic company’s and people have been arrested for scamming or tax evasion or stealing from their clients after success. This place is ideal for snake oil salesmen and scammers that’s what dreams are made means especially today. You are much better off staying there and selling to people in the US or growing a large subscriber base of wealthy Americans. There is much more I cannot type it all but if you are ever planning to move here I would be more than happy to FaceTime you and just help you understand things only citizens kind of understand to help you make an informed decision.

How did you get the bookstore to sell your sketchbook?
@MyCreativeDisorder5 күн бұрын
You sign a contract, they sell it with a 15% markup, and that's it. However, I didn't have any following and should have invested much more in advertising, which would have definitely boosted sales.
@chriskopeikin2702Күн бұрын
@ they will accept anyone or they thought your product had potential? Is that a large chain? This is something that would be much harder to achieve in America for example of how it’s not what people say.

I have seen these little projects from other creators as well ... I remember a graffiti artist launched a model train wagon/cart that you could do graffiti on and then place it on your shelf or gift it to someone... cool little ideas to emulate graffiti or get close to that aesthetic without actually vandalizing property. Your book is a pretty cool idea, maybe in the future with more exposure. Keep the grind going, one idea will be sure to take off. CHEERS!

My two cents: do not pursue graphic design if you are an artist. These are two distinct roles. Graphic design serves a purpose, while art exists for its own sake. Using similar tools does not make them the same. Design is not art, and art is not design. They stand on opposite ends of the spectrum.
@MyCreativeDisorder6 күн бұрын
Yes, I agree with you 100% but I have been working in graphic design since 2007 :) and I'm very good at it: www.freakart.lv

@@MyCreativeDisorder I've spent 20 years as a graphic designer within major advertising agencies, earning a salary on par with the best in the industry. Yet, the experience left me utterly disenchanted, as my core identity is that of an artist. Leaving the advertising business was an act of self-preservation, a necessary step toward reclaiming authenticity. I have never claimed that the two professions are equivalent. Advertising lacks the essence of artistic sensibility; it operates entirely within the realm of strategic, purpose-driven marketing design. These are fundamentally distinct worlds, each defined by its own ethos and objectives.
@MyCreativeDisorder4 күн бұрын
Leaving the advertising business was an act of self-preservation - that is exactly what I'm trying to do for next 8 years - transition back to my artist core :)
@axelSixtySix4 күн бұрын
@@MyCreativeDisorder I hope my modest experience may help you in some way. You remind me of myself back in 1990 when I was a successful art director, seeking to transition into an artist's career. Looking at your work now, I see more of a graphic designer than the artist you are destined to become in the coming years, if you allow yourself to evolve. Art is a constant process of experimentation, and you must be prepared for a long, transformative journey. You might need to let go of everything that once made you a great designer, to be reborn as a fragile artist. It’s a difficult transition, but one that’s essential. I genuinely hope to help you save years of personal development. Right now, you’re approaching your young artistic career like a marketing campaign. Believe it or not, while networking has its place, marketing has no true role in an artistic life. Plastering streets with your work or posting on social media won't nurture your artistic sense. Stickers are a waste of time, and the false philanthropy often associated with street art is unlikely to contribute to your creativity. I understand, though, that packaging and goodies appeal to the designer in you. But this is about recognition and legitimacy. These are two things you cannot truly achieve this way, nor will it help you make a living. The essence of being an artist lies in creating. Art for Art's sake. That’s our job. Don’t plan your art too rigidly, and don’t tie yourself down with prior sketches or the pressure to craft a recognizable style. You are not a brand. The mustachioed man is just the first spark of your creativity, nothing more. Go further. What is the essence of a mustache? How can a mustache exist without a face? What is its most radical, abstract form? Don’t let yourself become enslaved to any particular form, medium, technique, look, palette, or color scheme. Start from nothing. Experiment freely. See where it leads. Get lost. Start again. Create. Make mistakes. Create again. Repeat endlessly. In time, perhaps within a decade, everything will begin to make sense. You will doubt yourself, feel afraid, and face periods of failure. But keep going. The artist you are meant to be, and the masterpieces you are destined to create, are waiting for you further down the road. Good luck.
