In my opinion, I always liked the first Venom movie and how seriously it took itself. It felt like reading the comics from way back when. While I wish it had Spider-Man involved (like its own universe's Spider-Man), the fact that it works so well as a self-contained film - it doesn't suffer from not having him. It's actually a nice change of pace from the superhero movies of today (like in the MCU) where everything has to be connected. I hate to death though how they made Venom into an absolute joke in the second movie. I don't have any plans on watching the third based on the trailers but salute to Hardy regardless, it's always been easy to tell how much he loves playing Venom, despite so much studio(s) interference. On a side note, I wish we would get some more down to earth Spider-Man media though, like the Raimi films. The multiversal nonsense it seems like everything Spider-Man related is nowadays got old real quick to me.
