My brain is trapped in the 70s. Many songs such as this one and “if” wake me from a sound sleep. Maybe a time capsule takes me back to a wonderful time of life while I am sleeping.. That actually could be a great song..

Why is the mid-song guitar riff so different in every live performance and studio release of this song? Absolutely fantastic live performance, but the "official" studio version's guitar riff is so much better than the live performances, where they overdo the complexity. The studio version's sound creates an ambiance of simplicity and smooth listening that is arguably one of the best sounds to emerge from the 70s, in my humble, 30 year old opinion 😊. I always get the chills, and a surge of nostalgic energy when I hear that smooth, twangy, powerful guitar fade into the foreground of my consciousness, magically hitting every chord my soul longs to hear. Puts me into a place I haven't felt since waiting at the airport as a 7 year old with my family, excited to go on one of our last argument-free vacations as a peacefully coexisting family unit, blissfully unaware of the sorrow that would soon befall me; unaware of the evils of the world; of the failing marriage between my superhero parents, of the financial burden and arguments these vacations brought upon my parents, of the growingly apparent strain my own behavioral shortcomings as a young man had upon my family, of the lack of love I was really receiving. In those calm days before the storm, when the late 90s and early 2000s had a flavor that could be tasted in the air, when the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was yet to bear its fruits upon mankind. When anxiety and depression and social deprivation was yet to be recognized as that worthy of shame, worthy of seeking refuge from. When the knowledge of the forbidden pleasures of sin was yet to tempt my mind, and the closeness and purity of closeness to family was all that I could want - unaware that this desire and proudly proclaimed source of security was itself a source of ridicule by my own parents, a sign of weakness and source of disappointment for my parents who perhaps expected a bit more of a display of ambition and determination to leave the comfort of family - at nine. Anyways. Half sad, half comforting; motivating, instilling of hope. Smooth rock reminds me of my childhood, the long waits in airports soothed by an undertone of guilty excitement, the vivid imagery unique to my ADHD ridden imagination which today is retained as memories depicting bland images, often golden-tinted and orange, with human-like caricatures and suggested smooth vibes of sunsets and comforting hotel lobbies. The euphoric atmosphere and reassuring warmth of facing 7 garunteed days of not getting spanked or punished by parents. That is what this song loans me for 3 minutes.

En los 80s. Siendo un adolescente escuché este tema que aún hoy por hoy forma parte de mi colección de canciones que canto a capela. Y aunque no soy músico ni cantante hay momentos en que mi voz se asemeja a la célebre garganta de este talentoso artista.
