I agree with a lot of what you said, especially about the state of the markets, but I would point out that farmers have been protesting for many years about the rigged market they have to operate in - but no one listens, and no government during the last 50 year cares! They just want cheap food - as do the consumers (and if they say different, look at what they DO not what they say!). Also, if land were to significantly fall in value that would put many farms in negative equity, or at least mean they had no access to borrowing - which would likely be even worse for them than the inheritance tax!
