Magic selection of recordings , I have seen The Furs twice in Glasgow the last 5 years or so . Still an incredible live band. Were you at these Italian shows?
@soapcommercialАй бұрын
I wish! Afraid I'm a bit too young for that. I did just see them twice this tour in the US and they're still as great as ever; hopefully they head back to Glasgow soon and you can catch them again!

Track 2 is "The Locust Girls." I wonder if it was mislabeled on the original release.

Who is speaking at 11:53? Tim?
@soapcommercialАй бұрын
I've talked to Tim before - definitely not him here. My first guess was keyboardist Ed Buller, but I think it might be their manager, Les Mills. Sorry I don't have a definite answer for you.
@DocBruceBannerАй бұрын
@@soapcommercial No worries, I didn't think it was Tim either, just could make out someone saying "Tim Butler" at one point. Thanks for posting this stuff!

@@DocBruceBanner Yeah of course! Helping archive the band has been a lot of fun so I'm always happy to share whatever I come across!

How sagacious it this interview? Particularly the polystyrene cup and his comments about pollution and the "Christian right".

The interviewer keeps trying to get him to say something nice about The Cure but he's clearly not a fan. Shame because they are both great bands.

Peter. I love your music. Please stop singing. You’re making Captain Beefheart sound like Chet Baker.

By the way, I once read a review of "Dumbwaiters" that said, "This song defies description by the English language." Ironically, that's the only proper way to describe it. IMO, it's one of the greatest sonic creations so far.
@GardnerGoldsmith5 ай бұрын
Thank you!! This is a great post! The band really shattered a lot of the pop and even the punk modes when they released the first album, and then, with "Talk, Talk, Talk," they turned it up even more, with the sonic wildness of songs like "Dumbwaiters" and "It Goes On" -- both lyrically (soon seen again on "Forever Now") and musically, the song shows such power and drive, with that bass-drum combination in the middle, then each guitar coming in, and Duncan K on that sax, rising to the apex and breaking to go back into the close of the song. Just amazing. Thank you, again!
@soapcommercial5 ай бұрын
Thank *you*, I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Those tracks are two of my favorites from Talk Talk Talk -- totally agree with your other comment about Dumb Waiters as well. There's so much to love about all their music (I'm a big Mirror Moves and World Outside guy, personally) but the first two albums are real gems!

I’ve always preferred these rawer radio sessions versions of the Book of Days tracks to the ones that were recorded for the album. I bought this CD on a whim when it came out which turned out to be a good move because it’s now fiendishly hard to get hold of and I don’t think you can stream these versions anywhere, so good upload. "There's a wasted chance for every train that passes" is a fantastic, haunting lyric. Even more so now three decades later and I'm wondering where the hell all that time disappeared to.
