Would this be recommended for a webshop? I always assumed this is to increase the loading speed because the webshop/website would load the most suitable image for the specific device/screen resolution? As I said, I assume, so I might be completely wrong. Can you say anything regarding this point?

Unfortunately - you got to do that manually. I am still testing a safe way to do that for previously uploaded images.
