Would this be recommended for a webshop? I always assumed this is to increase the loading speed because the webshop/website would load the most suitable image for the specific device/screen resolution? As I said, I assume, so I might be completely wrong. Can you say anything regarding this point?

Nice one. I guess iwe could still add our custom image sizes as well, because I guess it makes sense to have one image size that is your blog's content width.
