as someone who LOVES sound design ive always thought that nintendo always had some of the best sound design in gaming. ACNH is a good example, but pretty much any modern game they've made applies. also so ur oc goes so hard i love the art omg

Can I say one thing? I don't know if anyone ever noticed how good the rumble feature is and it goes perfectly well with the sound design when you learn to feel both you really get a totally new control of your surroundings

it’s funny how i was so crappy at playing charger but genuinely loved the sound of a killshot so much that i never gave it up. now im sort of great at it (i miss 70% of the time, let me be delusional)

I only got the sploosh question right because its in rotation right now in SR 😅 Also I got the Flingza right only because i can hear the two unexpected second splashes on the vertical flick. Those fuckers have splatted me so many times i will not forget 😂

Sound design is so important and good sound design is so satisfying. Theres something about it that makes my brain/ears so happy. I started noticing it more after watching Fire Force. The sounds of their powers and the fights is insane. On the flip side, Stinger lasers and Flyfish Missles will forever induce anxiety in me 😂

I didn’t have splatoon 1 but with the switch out i saw splatoon 2 and i was ubsessed but forgot it 3 years later i found splatoon 3 online and now i am in s rank so yeah but I don’t have friends that play splatoon so i had to do grand fest by myself :(

About how people might play tv or tabletop mode: There is a 3rd way people can play that negate sound entirely, and thats playing with friends in a VC. I connect my switch to my wacom tablet simply because its a bigger screen, and usually I'd plug my headphones into it, but when im talking or playing with friends, I have to unplug and sacrifice sound entirely to hear my group. I'd say its not too punishing with my usual playstyle, but if i use say, a hydra, then it becomes an issue cause i wouldn't know who is sneaking on me. Although I could play on tabletop mode, it just feels too small for me to properly make out my opponents, and even then the sound is muffled because i have headphones on. This could be solved if I had a HDMI splitter and connected my switch to the splitter and then to a capture card for OBS to let me hear the sounds, but unfortunately, no money :(

Bleh. I agree, but making _every_ weapon sound different, even within its own category, gets confusing when you have dozens of audio cues to keep straight that are all variations on "splat."

WIth how Splatoon has become a series for loser competitive players, I'm sure sound design would be much more appreciated if it was on a console or platform that was made to actually allow the use of headphones. Like every other game made for loser competitive players. All that said, this isn't really underappreciated or unknown as it's one of the most careful parts of game design in any game. Not really special to Splatoon at all.

I only recently got back into splatoon after quitting about a year ago, while I was gone I played a lot of a game called "Hunt Showdown" in which the sound is not just a neat thing to help you, but you WILL lose each time if you're not good with that kind of thing. Now in the past I never realised these things but now that I've practically trained myself to always listen carefully, this is really helpful.

My uncle is one of four Wii U owners and while at his house he got me to try Splatoon 1 and I was hooked instantly. I only remember liking roller and Saltspray. I begged my parents for a Switch and Splatoon 2 when it came it.

I was never able to play Splatoon 1 as a kid, because I never had a Wii U (Only a Wii) and I remember going to before at night and dreaming that I would get to play as that squidkid I so desperately wanted to be, singing along to the Calimari Inkantation as I splat Octavio back into his mech and save the Zapfish. I would spend hours on my tablet, watching gameplay videos of people playing online matches, or watching a compilation of different Story Mode bosses and mini bosses, and when Splatoon 2 was released, I was ecstatic. I tried to convince my dad to get it for me, and he only said “yes” because he saw Fire Emblem on the shelves, but I still remember sitting in a swivel chair with my motion controls on max sensitivity playing the story mode. I loved every moment of that game, and I really miss playing it, especially now that I lost the cartridge. I have Splatoon 3 now, and I’ve not only 1,000%’d the story mode, but I coincidentally ended up buying my Nintendo Switch Online during Spookfest, so the Splatoween victory theme was the first one I heard, and it still feels unforgettable. Now, the game’s life cycle is wrapping up, and while I don’t have anyone I can directly play with (yet), I’m very excited to keep playing, and who knows, maybe we’ll get something even better for the series later down the line.

I love Splatoon music. I think sound design has been masterfully crafted. But placing music onto all of the other sounds completely ruins it for me.

Pretty nice video besides the prochara, SwSh, and Splat2 hero mode parts. It was also painful hearing how much he was hyping himself up for how good Splatoon 3 would be just for Splatoon 3 to be... Splatoon 3. Let's hope Splatoon 4 is actually good.

One word: my sister started playing Splatoon 2 and I immediately clicked with it. (i thought the splatoon 2 story mode was amazing. i didnt have the dlc either lol)

I love how the music get more intense and eerie as you progress. It took me 3 tries to beat it too, and my 2nd attempt was when I broke floor 20. I was listening to the music during a danger zones level, and in that moment I knew I needed to lock in
