Based on AIO and using 13 kWh from it daily (which I do) No Battery 13 kWh during the day and pay 24p per kWh so 13 x 364 days x .24p = £1135 over 10 years thats £11,350. Battery Buying a AIO for 6k installed and charging that on Tomato at 5p for same time period note that I have put loss into the calculation so 13 becomes 14.5 = £6,000 + (14.5x364x.05p x 10 years) = £8,639. So 2.7k saving over 10 years then each subsequent year £866 reduction in costs (further note that if you was paying 7p on Octopus that saving would be £1k less over 10 years) No ISA involved

It's not all about money. It's about grid flexibility and (with solar panels -- yes, more money!) generating (for own use or export) your own energy. And, for many people, there's the availability of back-up in case of power cuts.

Prices TBC on the All-in-One V2, although we would strongly suspect it will be under the pricing of Powerwall 3 to be attractive. Powerwall 3 does have some limited integrations with Home Assistant; they have recently announced an open API www.home-assistant.io/integrations/powerwall/ . The GivEnergy system, however, is much more user-friendly and is better supported with home assistant as their API.

Thanks for the comment, the “my energy optimiser software” - myenergyoptimiser.co.uk/ can organise the scheduling around smart load shifting already (in beta). So, as an interim, you can do this to help manage the time shifts for you until the full GivEnergy features are released.

Interesting comment, thanks. It is still possible to install extra panels with a two-MPPT tracker inverter (even if the solar panels are in a different orientation - i.e. east and west on the same input). You would need to install optimisers on one of the current arrays and then link the new array together with one of the old ones (all panels on the tracker would need to have an optimiser; we would recommend the same brand and wattage of the panel and it would be subject to the maximum voltage/current of the inverter). The current AIO V1 is a great product with a 6KW charge and discharge; we have installed many of them. They can also be run in parallel, I.e., 12KW charge/discharge for two units (currently in beta), so you can get a similar output to the AIO 2. Top tip - If you have high energy usage, sometimes you dont need as much energy storage as you think; you need the right energy tariff. If you go on Octopus Cosy (heat pump tariff), you can charge the battery 3 times a day or set the system to map to Octopus Agile, which can charge whenever it is cheapest on the grid!

@ I am on Eon there are cheaper as I also have economy seven as I have storage heaters I am waiting when they have a deal with all in one with the UV chargers or when the second one comes out the first one would have sale going on, maybe in a months time let’s see keeping finger crossed

Thanks for the comment. We understand there is a prototype GivEnergy charger, but there are a couple of issues with the concept of VTH / V2G. First is the standardisation of the concepts that exist most (like the Octopus Power Pack tariff), which is based around CHAdeMO chargers (V2G) and not Type 2 chargers (which is the most typical for Europe). Secondly are the regulations around this area for this to work across car manufacturers and the grid (there has been some clarity in the latest IET code of practice, but it is very early in concept); second is the car manufacturers getting on board Nissan and Mitsubishi have started with limited models. Other manufacturers will come on board, but it is likely that, ultimately, this will affect vehicle warranties and require bi-directional charge/discharge capabilities (which most EVs and PHEVs don’t yet possess). For now, it is very early for V2G (vehicle to grid) and V2H (vehicle to home). It will be a few years before this becomes a mass market, although we will be excited for this to arrive!

@ Thanks for the reply. I fully agree but I’m looking to take an EV on salary sacrifice mid 2025. Renault 5 is high on the list and has V2G/H. I don’t want to get an obsolete charger and I’m hoping one or two manufacturers will launch products in time. The tech is moving so quickly, it’s hard to keep track!

@@Nemutai666, The Wallbox Quasar 2 is out in Europe (so it does exist and this is what Octopus have tested the Powerpack Tariff on). Very expensive, at 4000 euros. It will be a few years before it becomes mass-adopted and ultimately commoditised to a reasonable price; as soon as it becomes mainstream, we will be the first to do some content!

​@@Nemutai666 with the R5 having a relatively small battery, consider if you could manage without a wall box initially, and just use a granny charger instead. Save the cash for when home charging tech has evolved. I've had an e-golf for the last 18 mo, and whilst most of my charging is done at work, even if I didn't have that, I'm sure I could have managed fine on the 3-pin plug. If your daily round trip is 40 miles or less, you should be able to replace this during the 5 hours cheap rate on Octopus Go or similar tariffs.

No. The 9.5 is a low voltage battery. While the All In One's are High voltage. Some enthusiasts have them together using 3rd party software to manage them and display their data.

Ditto here. My Gen 2 3.6kW Inverter is too small so rather than replace it (unless GE would take it back as a trade -in) I would be looking to add an additional larger inverter of at least 6kW to home while retaining my existing 2 x 9.5kW Gen 2 batteries. Only other option is to scrap my existing system altogether & replace it with what I should have had from day one.

@@PaulLandregan shame, making things backwards compatible is a great way to retain customers, having recently spent around £10k on GivEnergy products I'm starting to think I made a poor long term choice.

Thank you for your comment! It's certainly something we get asked A LOT and there's no straightforward answer. We are platinum installers for GivEnergy and Award Winning Tesla installers, they each have drawbacks & benefits - the best system ultimately depends on your specific needs and requirements. Here is some general advice of when you might choose system over the other: If you are a family of four with no heat pump and average loads (2000 - 5000KWH), then a GivEnergy Hybrid inverter will likely give you the best ROI and meet your needs. If your home is in a much higher demand (5000 KWH +) or you have a heat pump, then you would more than likely make the best use of the larger inverter in the Powerwall 3. If you don’t want the whole home back up but a want the increased storage capacity of the Powerwall 3, then GivEnergy has a product called the All in One, which is worth a look at; this has a 13.5KWH battery (similar chemistry to the Powerwall 3), the inverter is a bit smaller at 6KW (charge and discharge), but you get more bang for your buck particularly if you are a battery only (AC/Coupled) customer. Maybe for the minute try flux, but our contacts at Tesla Energy tell us compatibility with IOF is imminent, so fingers crossed it won't be long before you can switch! @ Thanks for this. I have asked Octopus to provide confirmation that it will happen and by when. No response as yet, so it’s good to hear positive feedback from the Tesla side. In the interim I might go with Flux to use the Netzero app to integrate with Agile. But I am very disappointed with Octopus, and not for the first time either.

Thanks so much for your comment. Regarding FIT payments, it will all depend on the installation method for the Powerwall 3. Check whether your energy supplier is okay with hybrid inverter setups (some aren't). Assuming your energy provide is happy with the set up, you will need a bi-directional energy meter (approved by your energy supplier) and installed by an MCS-approved contractor (make sure you get the make and model your energy provider are happy with). If your energy supplier isn't happy with the hybrid-inverter set-up, don't worry! It is possible with almost all FIT payment providers to install a Powerwall 3 in an A/C coupled format (your installer can fit an additional CT clamp to track the usage of your current Inverter). This means you clock the unit of energy (getting your full FIT payment) and then store it in the battery. You'll also need to tell your energy supplier, they will usually require some paperwork and require a schematic diagram, and your deemed export will change to Smart Export Guarantee. My suggestion would be Octopus Outgoing for your export at the time of writing this comment it was 15p fixed per KWH (essentially you get a FIT payment, buy loads in your battery for 7p and if you buy too much you get 15p a KW - result!) Octopus Intelligent Go and Powerwall 3 is a good choice. The only thing you should be aware of is that Intelligent Go has a fixed window from 11.30 to 17.30. But, it also randomly changes charging slots when the car is plugged in, which means your Powerwall outside of the event could push energy to your vehicle (which you are unlikely to want). To prevent this, you can either get an API to program the Powerwall to amend the time windows on your Powerwall, or you could set your charger to avoid taking charge outside of 11.30-17.30 as long as your Powerwall 3 and your car are synced to the exact times it will work fine. Presumably, as with other systems, the Tesla powerwall can be installed so that it doesn't 'see' the charger current -- i.e. the charger feed is separate to that for the house consumer unit so the CT clamp can be placed so as not to see it? Or is there an issue with the Gateway?
